Hello, first time ever posting in a forum.

I have a 2004 Tundra double cab that I would like to hand down to my soon to be 16 year old daughter.

She likes the truck but I have saved some cash to buy her a rig already.

Figured I should put some cash into the truck for her.

    It is completely stock.

What after market upgrades are recommended to make it look newer/better/cool.

Not interested in adding performance unless they are recommended for safety, breaks steering etc.

She will be going to school and practice.

    Thank you for your time.

    D

If it was my 16 year old self, I'd want a new sound system and headlights. I went to school in the boonies and the country road I took was pitch black when I was coming home from practice.

    Makes sense!

    Put that on the list.

I can't seem to find upgraded interior plastic for 2004.

    Good looking truck!

If she's playing sports, leather seat covers and some all weather mats would be easier to clean than cloth. I'm tapped out though - the 1st gen owners will have better recommendations for anything safety related.

Truck got 16 or 17 inch wheels?

    *Crutchfield for the audio

*teq customs- they offer a trd pro style grill, and handle headlight retrofits. A retrofit will work better than just swapping in led bulbs

leveling kit/ coil overs help these trucks in the looks deptartment. Also updated the truck with led bulbs inside for the dome, interior, and dash lights. Outside was converted too. Then of course you can do wheels and tires with more aggressive offsets.

Lights, windshield wipers, tires, brakes, check battery, check radiator for cracks. I dealt with all of these things with my daughter's 2007 Camry. All in the name of safety.

    Awesome, thank you all.

I am putting together a list of all the recommendations.

I put a crutchfeild stereo in my 2004, took a couple hours and now I have apple car play, which I think is much safer than a phone in a cup holder.

There are so many options for stereos.

Which one fits the best with that odd dash hole? Do the "floating" heads work or too much for an old school tundra?

I got a truck ($8k) worth of money to throw at it.
2 little sisters and Brother will be driving this tundra. 250k miles and it's the only rig that never needs attention.

I just need to make it look cool enough that big sister is proud of it.

Driving lights and grill/bumper to send deer down is a fantastic idea. We live with elk and deer, lucky us but horrible when your daughter starts to drive

Thank you all for your ideas, I promise I am reading everything I can in the forum. Super excited that my daughter showed interest in my (best ever built) old tundra.

She likes driving it more than mom's new tundra, she says she can see better.

I always wanted to sink some money in this truck, it just kept on running and never needed anythin

Maintenance good and kept up? Timing belt especially?

Yeah a good radio can go a long way. I think in 04 they started to require a "dash kit" to fit the larger radio opening. Keep her from wanting to fiddle with her phone while driving. Crutchfield will absolutely set you up and answer any questions you have. I like the Sony radios but I haven't run their newest offerings. Any decent brand name that offers car play/android auto will do great. These trucks could have come with a number of different radios and amps so you probably need to identify what you have here.

I absolutely recommend a big light bar in the lower part of that front bumper. I know some have done it (I've done it on my 01 but different bumper) mine is triggered off my high beams so easy to turn off and on.
