Installed the fitcamx 2 channel. I wrestled with installation of the front camera cover and broke a clip. FML. Fit and finish wasn’t perfect but honestly no one will ever notice. I used the daschcamstore.com rear camera mount and it worked great. I don’t like the fact that I have to disconnect my phone connection to the car to watch the vids in the app. Video quality is good and it works well at night. Overall I’m happy with the fitcamx

I found I needed to put a tie wrap on the wire up in the overhead console to keep it really snug against the windshield. AS far as disconnecting your car to watch the vids......you shouldnt have to. The phone and camera connect via wifi and the phone and car connects via bluetooth.

What do you think about this vs the fitcamx? I like how simple the fitcamx is. Wondering if I could somehow get an adapter/harness to work with the a139 pro and the OEM dashcam port near the rearview mirror.

The advantage of a Fitcam is that it blends in and has Oem look.

This Viofo may have an extra input for an extra camera, maybe it had more features etc, but see how bulky it is, with all the wires sticking out of it just like my old TV DVR.

My company sells and installs video telematic systems . We have done at least 1600 installs in the last 6 months .

What I don’t understand is why we even need another system in the first place when the Toyota has an amazing camera system that could of easily been part of a surveillance in the first place .

I think it was a BIG miss for Toyota .

Personally, I wouldn’t get the Fitcamx. It doesn’t have GPS for video details on travel direction, and long/lag, so may not be useful for litigation or insurance purposes.

You're right. But there may be reasons why Toyota didn't want to deal with offering dash cam...

It's possible that it's a liability. If camera stops recording for any reason, and you don't have a recording of a big and deadly accident, then Toyota may be sued. It's just a one more liability thing for them to worry about, and they're not really into being on the bleeding edge. And maybe they just don't yet have proven technology to save recordings...

my personal opinion is that you get more features and quality with the a129/139 camera. granted its not the best placement (left of the rear mirror and as far up the dotted area as i can not to impede camera view), but the wife approves the location and being able to tuck the wire along the base windshield and up the passenger "A" pillar helped a lot. i used the socket up in the middle of the dash to power it. the "A" pillar was a tad more involved, i had to remove the passenger grab handle to give the "A" pillar enough flex to be able to weave the cord behind it.

    1. i do like the quality of the video being 4k, but you really need a 128gb card to have enough history
    2. trying to transfer files from the camera to your phone takes quite a while even on wifi speeds.
    3. the camera head adjustment up and down helps that i can adjust it downwards to mitigate the effect of dusk sun effect sitting low on the horizon.
3a. down side no longer a side to side adjustment, so your initial placement is critical, which i've notice the view is kinda skewed more toward the driver side
    4. has gps
    5. can turn off beeps and lights for night time or stealth mode
    6. i have the kit to hardwire it, but havent got the guts to pull apart the dash to do it
    7. can get a cpl filter
    8. cpl filter can affect quality thou
    9. phone app is better than average, but i havent used phone apps before so i have no reference. im used to my a119 using the tiny screen to set settings
    10. the a139 pro with that new starvis 2 camera is like a huge step up from the a129 for night/day quality, will be getting one for the 6th 4runner when it comes out.
    11. like i can add a rear camera later on down the road unlike the blackvue where you have to buy the 2 ch setup.
    12. like that viofo you can get a 3 channel kit, wish they had a 4 channel so i can see out the left/right of vehicle, that would involve a professional install
    13. watch install videos, i didnt use the static sqaure to install the camera so the 3m double sided tape is attached directly to the inside windshield, which from what i learned you are suppose to use the static square.
    14. box comes with extra 3m tape so i could redo # 13
    15. box also comes with tools to assist with install which was nice (panel tool)

overall i love the camera a129, but sad they released the a139 pro after i bought the a129 for the tundra.

Yet all these vehicles have a black box that records events prior to a crash?

Everytime the truck is used its enabled just like the camera. Its just not as easily accessible as the camera and its made for Toyota to examine as well as LE.
You do have some of the access to the data though... The toyota app has a feature that shows your driving habits, braking, cornering etc.

I do wish it was incorperated into the onboard camera system.

Recording front and rear cams have saved me a few times from being considered responsible in an accident.
Even caught a fancy pants lawyer who threw an egg at my truck.
I showed the cops the video, the detective went to the house of who owned the car.
First he denied it all, then he saw the video. Followed up asking to pass his number along to me so we can settle this outside of insurance.
Paid me $1400.00 to not file a claim. Dashcam was instrumental.

just wanted to add to this thread

for those wanting to power a dash cam, here are adapters to add a usb connector that inlines to the connector to the dimming mirror (dimming mirror is a mandatory requirement for this to work) and you dont have to route any wires.

I still like my setup way better than a glob behind the mirror that looks cheap. Using the port in the headliner with an always on and low voltage protection... It's in one of the original threads, not this one.

not everyone is ocd like you :)

personally i dont have an issue with it and looking into getting this and removing my lackluster cable routing from the mirror to the top dash power port. i pretty sure i can hide the adapter and bound it to the back side of the mirror easily.

So I am two days into the stock dashcam on the 2023 limited (I payed for it but I dint ask for it with the limited model). Even the dealer at drive off had a issue getting the damn thing set up.... Now im having the same issues connecting to it even in turning off blue tooth. Will do some more searching but but for the price I see in the line item the ease of use is lacking and pissing me off lol. I cant exactly go with o off the shelf one now so need to get it working the way it is supposed to..

I've got to hand it to the people of the forum once again for giving me a solution. I had been wanting to change out my dash camera for a while now. I had it mounted on my ICS dash mount, but I never really liked that location. I wanted to go with as minimal install as possible.

I opted for Garmin Mini 2 and coupled that with the Dongar Technologies for a super clean install. Like most folks, I tapped into the power cable above the overhead console. I don't have an auto-dimming mirror, but this works perfectly. I just ran the cable between the windshield and the headliner. No need to drop the headliner or anything. Just pull down on the center console. No joke, I was done in 10 minutes. Which was still long enough for me to sweat my a$$ off in the desert heat.

On a side note: I'm using the suction cup mount so I can take the camera down when I'm parked. In 115 degrees, the windshield gets hot enough that it'll melt the 3M tape that Garmin uses to "permanently" mount the Mini 2 to the windshield. I also snagged the polarized lens for the camera so it's not 100% blinded when I'm driving East/West into the Sun. There's no screen on the camera, which I prefer. It keeps the footprint small and every time I've ever had a screen on a camera, it's too damned small to use anyways and I just use my phone.

Reviving a bit of an older thread but has anyone tried using the Dongar tech in the back of the digital rear view mirror? I just got my tundra Wednesday and had ordered thinking it was just auto dimming. Feel ridiculously dumb because it looks as if the wiring is different with the digital rear view mirrors where I’d have to go to the one above sunglasses holder which I was trying to avoid doing for ease.

I forgot to post here when I installed it a few months ago, but I got the FitcamX for my 23 Platinum. I got both front and rear. The install was quick and easy after watching the Youtube video linked above. The front camera blends right in. The only real place I could stick the rear camera was on a flat piece of plastic next to the rear passenger seat, but it works well there so far. The cable tucked neatly and easily into the pillars and liner. Completely seamless.

The app works fine. It connects fine and I can download video to my phone no problem.

It's kind of simple but its what I was looking for. I personally don't need a zillion features, I just need it to get stuff on video when needed. I forget its there...
