Every time I hear “Happy Memorial Day!!”, see an ad for a Memorial Day sale, or another news bit for the perfect Memorial Day bbq, I absolutely cringe. Good to see a few folks understand what this is all about. I ask people what their thoughts are in regard to 9/11 Day sales, and they typically find it appalling.

I used to feel the same way as well.. especially after losing a close buddy of mine in 2010. I was very bitter for a few years until I was hanging out with another one of our buddy’s on Memorial Day and he told me to lighten up and “let it rip, because that’s what James would have done”
So while I do offer my respect each Memorial Day, and go to Arlington any chance I can, I also celebrate every moment I can as an American
    RIP James… miss ya bud

As someone that has served and put buddies in bags, I think "Happy Memorial Day" is appropriate. It is a day to celebrate those that made it possible for others. I have no doubt others see it differently. But had I given everything, I wouldn't want people to be sad and gloomy. I would want them cannonballing off the top ropes into some lake water, shotgunning a Shiner Bock while tossing a bag in a violently competitive round of cornhole, then topping it off with your significant other when the lights go out. Living life to the fullest on Memorial Day is what I think about.

Agreed. Most of the ones lost that I knew would want us to do nothing less than a full send all weekend long. Just kind of depends where you are in life. I certainly don't mind the celebrations and the "Happy Memorial Day" - but I just try to absorb all of the time I do get to spend with my family on these days and appreciate it because of those who can not do the same. I'll typically start off early on the Monday with a thankful prayer, and sometimes head over to some granite and render salute, other times that's not as easy. I try to stay off social media just because it has become so polluted with all of the "look-at-me Murph's" but I do believe there is still some sincerity behind the WODs. But this is just me. I would never tell someone they couldn't celebrate, remember, etc. the way they wanted because that would be the ultimate disrespect to those that fell.

Hope everyone had a Great Memorial Day weekend filled with fun and memories.
