I wrote this on another Tundra Forum in response to a cat protection plate post. One member wrote about his plates from Talon's Garage. So I responded. Another member then asked that I post it here.
I have a 2018 Tundra and purchased both skid/cat protector plates from Talon's. Well designed and easy to install but I was not comfortable how much space there was between the rear plate and the floor pan. I could easily reach in with both arms and and a cutting tool and therefore remove the cats with much difficulty. I reached out to Talon's via email and v-mails but never received a return reply. So I decided to design one myself and have a fab shop construct it for me. Feel a lot better about the cat protection now.

I assume you have a 2 wheel drive truck? I know some of the other companies make a verticle plate that bolts on to the rear.

Sorry you didn't get a response from Talon. They are normally quick to reply from what I've seen. Either way, glad you are protected and feel safe

I’ll look for your email in the morning. Sometimes I will read an email, and forget to reply to it.

We actually have a vertical plate designed, and it mounts to the three holes on the rear of the transfer case plate that are there. We just never brought it to market.

Main reason i haven’t is because I do not feel it’s necessary. With as many as we have sold, and the number of emails I have received about our plates saving people from theft, I feel confident that the transfer case plate provides enough coverage to deter any thieves from climbing up there.

That being said, if enough people want it, I have the file on my computer and ready to go.

I will say, you did a good job making that piece!

@Talon2006 Just wondering if there is any chance of the front bolts that thread into the nut plate working loose if they don't have the lock washer installed any longer?
Will the Nutserts be able to withstand multiple removals and reinstallations over the years of maintenance if needed?
Not trying to discard the quality of your product, just wondering what we should expect down the road.

    Thanks for all your help.

I always recommend rechecking the bolts for tightness after the first install, and periodically there after. I have not had any issues on my personal truck where we use the riv nuts.

We have been using this brand of riv nuts for the past year, and have not heard of any issues. That being said, I don't have a crystal ball to predict the future. Environment will play a large part of it too.

Pffffff, look at THIS guy, leaving his annual budget line for Divination equipment at $0 - Do you even QA check your parts with Tarot readings, analyze your warranties with proper OSHA-approved ouija board-certification?!

Really, the blems are getting less and less. I think we are slowly getting the process dialed. The only think I do not know at this point, is long term how well this particular powder will hold up.

I will say, we have a few big name bumper manufactures in the area, and according to our rep they are using the same powder we are.

They should be in stock soon. Wife and I just took some much needed vacation, and next week I hope to get a few things rolling.

When I was first starting this, still working full time one of my co workers asked me.

"Do you think you will have repeat customers?"

Me: "No, its mostly buy for their truck, and then they will be done with me for years."

Coworker " Yeah, you are probably right"

Yeah... this is one of the times I am glad I was wrong!

Thanks for all your support!! I might need to send you a six pack of beer with your 5th purchase!

Wondering the same thing as well. I bought the aluminum plates a while ago but would like to order the TRD adapter. The plates are super nice and well made. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for some cat protection.

We don't do any promo codes or sales typically. We really strive to just keep our prices very low, and our margins thin so we can pass off the savings to you.

@Talon2006 are you going to offer the trans skid separately in steel also so I can add that later down the road?

Looks like a great product, so I placed my order today with Talons Garage for the 1/4" 5052 Aluminum Cat Protector as I am starting to collect all the parts I want for my 2023 Tundra. Just need ETA on the delivery.
