My neighbor said cold air intakes cause “too much airflow”. LOL this sounds ridiculous, but is there any truth to it? Seems like k&n and other companies would be out of business because thats what their business is all about.

He could mean turbulence...which is true for some kits. I've had to add an air straightener before a MAF sensor before. Was getting a bunch of codes without it. Once the straighter was in there, it was perfectly fine.

No. Saying it flows too much air,....or saying it flows better, etc, is all ridiculous.
It's "performance" is to filter air. The only time it has an affect on air flow (how much air) is when it's dirty/clogged and restricts air. Doesn't matter if it's stock filter media, cool cone shaped ones like on race engines, if it pulls air from the engine bay, the fender well, the trunk, your ass, etc.
It's possible your neighbor may have meant that if the filter media is too porous that it lets too much particulate through(?) That's not great for the average engine that you plan on never rebuilding. But if he simply meant "too much air is bad for the engine", no. That's dumb. The engine will suck in and pump out the same amount of air. Just changing to a cool looking filter media doesn't do anything to affect that. It takes more involved mods to the whole system than simply changing the air filter, to actually move more air through the system.
Unless, of course, you believe it does. Then for you, a K&N both filters better and makes more power. It only doesn't work for the people who don't believe in it.
Edit: forgot the smiley. I always forget the smiley.

Gotcha. I just finished installing the K&N CAIs and got a check engine light. My mistake was using the stock MAF screws and not the provided ones. No more check engine light now. It sounds really good! I’ll try and get some pics. Here’s the fiberglass-covered heat shield and intake tubes. Tubes didn’t come out as pretty as I wanted.

It sounds really nice, maybe twice as loud as k&n filters. I’ll try and get a video next time I’m driving. Bro, it’ll never be as good as VTEC, not even close.

LOL I had a purple 98 Civic hatchback with no AC. Good times with that chick magnet.

Thanks! My only complaint is that you have to put every piece together. Big question is why didn’t K&N take advantage of the “air ports” on each side of the truck?

You can see to the left and right of each filter, those holes are where the lower intake tube goes into. Right into cool air.

aFe does that and I’m not sure, but I think S&B does as well.

Idk, maybe it gets plenty of cool air, I think the side intakes under the lights bring in air as well?

You are generalizing and I’d bet you literally know nothing about this specific application. Does the stock plastic application stag nice and cool? SMH. FYI K and N just hired the the lead Injen engineer for intKe development.

Haha they literally do use the stock intake airflow.

Injen as in the designers of some of the most hokey air intake systems I’ve ever seen? And I’ve seen the pictures of this exact intake on the tundra. I’d put money on if you measured intake temps entering the turbos with the hood closed, the stock setup would be cooler if nothing else because the intake tubes are plastic. By way of using my eyeballs I can see gaps all around the heat shields allowing engine bay air in. I don’t care what intake you want to spend your money on. If you already made up your mind that it was the best intake around I’m not sure why you asked for opinions on it in the first place.
