Rear end squeak/chirp

Having trouble pinpointing where this is coming from, I've lubricated every single thing I can think of on the rear suspension and it will not go away. Any ideas?

I hate squeaks and rattles. It's hard to tell what it is but check to make sure the rotors aren't making contact with the dust shields.

 

Are you sure it is in the rear? Sounded far away??

Mine was a broken nut on top of my front right shock. That allowed the bolt to flex and rub, which was my squeek.

 

I'm definitely going to look at that because I actually recently took the rotors and calipers off just to clean everything up and lube the slide pins and make sure that the bolts will be easy to take off when it does come time to change the pads and rotors in a couple years.

Yes in that video the rear tires go over a speed bump when the squeak happens.

Spare tire moving underneath? Almost sounds like swinging…

 

My truck sounded exactly like this..took me weeks to figure it out. Finally took my tailgate off one day and the sound went away. I sprayed white lithium grease on the lower tailgate hinges, and the top latches.

 

I second tundra234. If it's not that my next guess would be a wheel bearing.

 

Any mod???

 

I actually took the spare tire off and put it in the bed on my drive to work today to see if that was it.

I will give that a try as well. My last squeak I had was the latches on the window on my cap, I was so happy when I got rid of it and thought this squeak was the same one but unfortunately after greasing them again it didnt go away.

Bone stock besides having a cap on the bed and an ATF cooler.

Checked every thing everyone suggested, just got finished cleaning and lubing the brakes. Still cant figure this one out. Going to have to wait til i can have someone drive it while I stand outside and listen. The squeak only happens whole the rear end is bouncing.

Have you lubed the rear leaf shackles with triflow and the front area where they pivot? I also spray the leafs themselves

 

I second shackles, cause after my shackle lift it sound the same

 

Just did this now Will report back, But I got someone to drive the truck over the boards while I listened to the rear end and it's definitely the driver side rear and it did sound like it was coming from the bumper area so let's hope it was the shackle.

 

Lubed the shackles and its still not gone but only hit it with some WD40, will try something better tomorrow

 

Just a longshot, but give the shield that protects the seal on the rear diff a squirt, some people here were getting an annoying squeak in that area. Good luck with your quest.

 

Dry lube the leaf springs, raise the frame to open then to full droop and blow them out or just spray into all the ends. A flat tip will spread them if needed. Spray the alignment holders as well

 

Sorry I can't picture what you're referring to on the rear diff

Definitely will do that, I actually had it lifted on the frame trying to maneuver the wheels by hand to get it to squeak but I couldn't. I used two stands to the left and right on the trailer hitch tube, is that a satisfactory stand point? It worked just fine but had never done that before and couldn't see anywhere else I could put a stand that would allow the suspension to fall.

 

usually I put jack stand on the frame, right in front of rear wheel, and use a long prybar pry on the part you want to test for any unusual movement and noise.

 

Check your U joints for slop.

 

All right so whatever it is is not related to the rare suspension. I jacked up the frame took the wheels off and took a pressure washer to all the leafs and shackles then lubed everything. Checked to see if the u-joints were loose all bolts were tight got one to tighten just a slight maybe an eighth of a turn.

 

Tell a guy rock it on the hitch while you go under. If it only happen at a bump it’s most likely bushings, sway bar, shocks

 

UPDATE: I feel like an idiot but finally figured it out! It was the hook on this bungee cord around the d-ring in the bed. This thing's been here for years and never ever squeaked.

 

I just happen to be taking the dogs for a walk and let them out of the bed and decided to push sideways on the tailgate so the The truck rock side to side because going up and down wouldn't cause it. Can't believe the amount of work and time I spent on something completely unrelated to the truck itself lol

 

Yeah, but the squeek is gone. You no longer need a new truck
