Thanks for the info. Just noticed on the flex fuel maintenance schedule says to change oil and filter every 2500 miles??!! Why is our "free" oil change only every 5000?

I was on the brink of arguing but since I do not use FF im pretty sure ill be fine. Got an oil sample at the last service I still need to send out.

FWIW i utilized the oil changes but hardly drive any miles. My 1st oil change was at 2500 amd second was 10k which took care of my 10/20 oil changes through Toyota care.

I'm debating even using them. My wife and I bought a 2012 Camry in January of 2012. Been taking it to the dealer every 5000 miles for an oil change and tire rotation. Last week when it hit 35000 miles I decided I was going to change the oil myself. Drained the oil, dropped the filter and it looked like it had never been changed. :rant:It was definitely not changed just the 5000 miles ago we paid to have it done. This is another downside to the drop in filter, cant tell if they change it or not. Now I'm nervous to even take mine in for the first service.

Begs the question if you didnt get "skunked" on a oil change as well.

yep bank account is running low from it..
This has been noted from our dealer in town doing the same thing or changing it and not putting enough oil in it damaged the engine beyond repair. I know of 2 so far.

Other thing shops have be caught doing is draining the oil and putting other used oil back in the engine. That shocks me.

funny part.. used oil is money in the bank for shop owners and or recycling places.

^^ I have always checked the oil after to see if they changed it and that it was filled properly. Had no problems there. Just wish Toyota didn't use these damn drop in filters. I was thinking about marking my canister somehow and then checking to see if it was moved. Any ideas on how? If I caught them changing my oil but not the filter, I will make a scene.... :angrygirl:

Tamper paint, then you will be able to see if the paint marking was cracked in the process of removal.

Added brake fluid change to the list on the OP.

@LOTSOFTOYS do you know if anything provided above is incorrect based on dealership recommendations. What i have listed is direct from the maintenance guide

I believe this is for 30K maintenance.

Maybe @LOTSOFTOYS can chime in on some of these suggested maintenance items.

Just spoke to a shop regarding fluid drain/fill. They told me Toyota uses "world standard" fluid for the transmission and it is a lifetime fluid. Not recommended by Toyota to change. Ever.

I really don't think that's a great plan, and the shop mentioned that Toyota dealerships will do a transmission fluid change (and most likely refill with a "globa", non-lifetime fluid at a third the cost). However they weren't shirking work and definitely could have taken my money, just told me they don't go against Toyota's recommendations. But I've heard a lot of forum posters mentioning a transmission flush (or drain/fill)...

    Am I out to lunch?

to follow up, 2008 maintenance manual says to service the transmission every 60k only if you tow regularly, but the local Toyota dealer poopoo's even that suggestion and recommends 100k if you tow, and never if you don't. They confirmed its a lifetime fluid. Independent shop informed me that they've seen more issues if it's replaced then if it's left alone. Just passing on info... Also learned that if you drain and fill you'll only get about 4-5 quarts of fluid out of the system, which holds ~12. A flush is the only way to refresh all the fluid (5.7L motor). I'm planning to flush at 100k and ensure its replaced with the world standard fluid type.

The recommendations above for 3RD GEN don't seem to be 100% accurate, at least after I reviewed my tundra manual. This is what I gathered:

    Oil/Filter: 5K (2500k if FFV using E85 >50% of the time)
    Rotate Tires: 5K
    Cabin Filter: 15K
    Engine Air Filter: 15K
Lubricate Propeller Shaft: 15K (5K if towing or hauling)
Re-torque propeller shaft bolt: 15K (5k if towing or hauling)
Front Diff Oil: 15,000 if towing or hauling (otherwise never required???)
Rear Diff Oil: 30K if towing or hauling (otherwise never required???)

Looks like the Toyota websites that the manuals could be downloaded from are now now working. :annoyed:

FYI and @LOTSOFTOY you are welcome to chime in on this. As far as the flush everyone is talking about just my 0.02 don't. Its better to drain and refill even if you have to do it twice in order to get the majority of the old fluid out of the transmission.

Flushing the system stirs up all the crap that is floating around and can actually do more harm than good. Most makers recommend only doing a drain/fill rather than the flush.

If you have Toyota Care you probably wont get your oil changed at 5k just 10/20k.

Sparkplugs are cheap and easy to change. I do them at 60 basic tune-up stuff.

I have Toyota Care and FFV motor and do not use E85; was told by dealer service my oil change interval is 5K when they made my next appointment for 6 months or 5K miles. I was told oil change for non-FFV is 10K.
