Looking for some guidance on how to remove the (black) outer front door glass trim surround molding on a 2006 Access cab. These moldings have the rubber seal for the glass inside. Coating is dead and want to remove for better paint prep on molding and the truck itself. I already have removed the horizontal belt molding.
    Thanks!

@shifty` Thanks for the links. Those seem to be about Double Cab trim. I have an Extended Access Cab. Looking for instructions on how to remove the front door window glass surround. Black metal outer molding and the attached rubber that the glass slides up and down in. Haven't been to find a posting about that piece of trim

No. This video shows how to remove the horizontal belt weather strip molding. I already have removed this. I need to remove the upper molding and window channel that is above the belt molding. Glass goes up and down in the rubber and there is a black metal molding on the outside of it. Goes around the window opening. Up the windshield post, over top of window glass, and down the rear of the window opening. Both ends meet the belt molding. Thanks!

This piece? If yes, the metal part, or the rubber channel that sits up inside of it?

Yes! That's it. I was wondering how to better describe it. How is this removed without damaging and how to replace after painting? I need to repaint the molding and the truck sheet metal .
Can't find any directions or video.
    Thanks for your help!

I'll be honest: I have no clue. I've never had to remove nor seen anyone else remove it. I wouldn't doubt if removal would be similar to the method shown in my 1st link above, in the 3rd or 4th reply, with a putty knife. But I'd remove the rubber window support/seal from its channel first to ensure there's no fasteners. I'm very curious how it'd be done, and suspect the process is similar to the window sweep and trim that flakes off at the door/window sill.

There are many videos about removing the horizontal belt seal piece. I don't see any fasteners on the inner channel. Rubber is pretty good so definetly don't want to accidentally damage it going on or off. Black paint is in very bad condition. It could be refinished on truck and then just do a thorough prep job on the body paint. I like to remove as much as possible for paint.

They will be saved for last. Plenty of other things to deal with before it goes into booth. Thanks for your help. Maybe someone has done this before.

The rubber insert just pulls out. @Hi06silver had to remove that rubber insert recently and may have some tips for you. One part of it is prone to deforming, I remember him saying. IIRC, that rubber actually goes down into the window channel that lives inside the door, so be ready for that.

And I get what you mean about removing as much as possible. I hate taping things for paint if I know they can be removed.

I haven't removed it from the upper part of the door yet as I don't have my new piece. From what I can tell on like the AC it may have a little white push in pin that helps it stay in the metal door. But once you start holding it out I think you'll see that. I'm pretty sure it's just press fitted in and the stiff portion that is on the longest part of the window opening. Seems like it has kind of a metal inside of the rubber that you sort of push onto the frame of the window area. I can let you know when I get my new part

Videos uploading 3:55 cdt. Should be done by 4:30 at the latest. Wasn't that hard. But I swear I saw some of the different year had a plastic pinning the top corner so if you have resistance, that's probably it. Those little black pins that hold in the weather seal around your door is what I'm talking about.

Thanks for posting the videos. Looks like the new rubber fixed your problem. Old one was shot. Looks like your Tundra is a Limited crew cab. Mine is an Access Cab. Wondering how different they are. This should help. I still need to remove the outer black metal trim that the glass channel goes into. That was my main question.
