What kind of fuel and/or oil additives do you use?

I've never used any. My vehicles have some mileage on them and think it could be beneficial. Here's a video I stumbled upon. I've got an '07 Escalade with 230k that fits his exact description at 5:50. Now I'm REALLY interested in trying some of this 505 CRF and CRO stuff in it. I've also got an '05 Accord with 240k on the clock that could probably use something. The Accord is quiet, runs like a clock and burns no oil. I just feel like any old engine could use a cleaning. My Tundra has 173k on it. Any reason not to give this stuff a try in my vehicles? What do people use here, if anything? Thanks

 

The guy seems a little quirky and isn't terribly scientific but, here's him using the fuel additive. This time it's actually in a 4.7L.

 

I buy Lucas fuel treatment by the gallon and I grab the chevron stuff when it’s on sale. The 505 stuff sparked my interest however it’s expensive and wasn’t in stock forever. I’ve never used it.

 

Never used an oil additive but I put a bottle Chevron Techron in the tank every 2-3 months

AT-205 in the crankcase to solve a specific problem (cam seal leak) and it worked, using it in the power steering res next. Don't bother with others.

I use ethanol free gas every third fill up.

Ethanol blended gasoline can really varnish a carburetor. I assume it is doing the same to my injectors.

They have some videos on the youtubes that show ethanol free fuel burning clear blue, not the yellow/orange color from ethanol fuel.

 

No such a thing around here and there's only a couple places in the state I know that sell E-85 not that I would ever put that shit in anything

 

I haven't always lived in an area that sold "clear fuel" or ethanol free. Since using it, I've noticed spark plugs are considerably easier to remove and I can nearly start my lawnmower and snow blower on the first pull. I initially used it in my small engines but I've started using it in my pickup. It's expensive. It is about 50 cents more/gal for ethanol free 91 octane than 87 with 10% ethanol. Ethanol is nasty it leaves a terrible residue if you let it sit.

Only crap E-10 here in CA . . . worst state in the US.
I use Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant in every tank of my 06 DC.
Many say it's 'Snake Oil', & that's fine.
We use the Lucas stabilizer in our boat that has an Injected 2-stroke, (outboards like good gas).
I haven't used oil additive, except to do a 'cleanse' using Sea Foam in my Dads Chevy 4.8 LS 1500 when it hit 100K miles. (it took that lifter knock away).

Many of the major brands have rewards/loyalty type programs like this if you download their apps. Once y’all burn through those Chevron rewards, search other brands in your area and see what they’re offering.

 

I have tried one of each of the AMS oil additives and I noticed much better mpg. Running on 87 before I felt like my gauge was just plummeting every day. With the amsoil p.I it got much better distance and after switching to 89 the valves sound much quieter for some reason, and a tank lasts me like twice as long.

I agree! I run ethanol free as much as I can. Always in my boat without exception. There is an app called PUREGAS that shows all stations with ethanol free on a map and will provide directions.

 

BG moa oil additive in my Elantra daily driver and I am at 240 k miles .

 

First, I use a tier one gas.

From an engineer that worked for a major company designing gasoline, and he recommended BG 44K Platinum. In his opinion, it was the best.

 

I was curious, so I dug a little bit. Here's some borescope and dyno results. Looks like it does clean a bit, the dyno shows results of loss, although the numbers are within margin of error. BG's Dynamic Engine Flush is the real deal, though. They make some great products. The BG FrigiClean product is absurdly good too.

I have used Ceratec oil additive from Liqui-Moli in one of our cars and it seemed to clean out some build-up.

I also hope it is cleaning the injectors in my cars. I am less concerned with build-up on pistons and why it would be an issue unless excessive. When is the last time someone told you they had an issue with excessive engine deposits? Using a Tier one gas like shell or Exxon Mobil, should help minimize deposits.

As a rule I use it once a year, mostly to keep injectors clean. I can’t say I noticed an improvement.

 

For cost effectiveness, I use startron enzyme fuel treatment, about $35 for 32 ozs, 1 oz treats 32 gallons, I use the diesel version because it simply is more concentrated and thus less costly.

Spark plugs look light tan evenly - use it on all small engines and all my autos, does the job of treating for alcohol, long term storage and everyday de-carbonizing really slowly. Luck all.

Same thing I'm using Seafoam for ultimately - keeping the lines/injectors clean. I will say, per that video, while he says no difference was seen, you can clearly see it actually did burn off some deposits. In the 'after', especially with the last piston head, you can see one of the spots was smaller, and the tannish area was silver. Similar results you'll see to Seafoam.

 

Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube/treatment every other tankful. I don't treat the oil with any additives yet. Just keep fresh oil in her.

 

2001 1st gen. Just whatever additives are in top tier fuel, nothing additional in the fuel or oil. Never had a check engine light fire off, it always passes smog, and still returns 16-18 mpg, as it's done since new. If it ain't broke, ya know.

 

BG and Amsoil products.

 

I use Marvels Mystery Oil in my tank. It can be used in the engine as well. I add it to the tank more often though. It only gets added to the engine when changing the oil. It has been around forever and is proven to work. I don't get a ton more miles per gallon but it has lubricant and cleaning properties in it so hopefully it is helping keep the engine cleaner running. I plan on changing my spark plugs soon so we will see what they look like to see if it is helping. My dad has always used this stuff and swears by it. I only use ethanol free gas in all my small engine machines and my boat. Regular gas is bad for them since they aren't run all the time.
