Finally got skid plate installed after couple months of procrastination with the differential drop on my 201620230521_105704.jpg

Just a heads up if you do your own oil changes with the skid plate still installed, after you get your new oil filter out of the box, repurpose the filter box into a ramp or just have something else to make a little guide/ramp for the engine oil to escape out of the oil pan at an angle towards the edge of the shield. Without it, when you're draining the oil, the first few seconds is fine, but eventually the stream of oil moves over toward the skid plate and then drains straight down on top of it and makes a mess getting caught all over the plate.

This was my solution too! The Fumoto normally introduces a potential weak point, but the skidplate protects it, so it's good in my book.

Bonked one on some metal edging once before, denting it and leaking oil 2000 miles away from home, resulting in getting robbed at a dealership for an oil change and drain plug. Now I make sure they're well protected before I'll install them.

I might just find a stencil or sticker and slap TRD on mine, lol. It looks sweet though, nice work!

I lost the plastic clip in the first winter offroading. The valve's lever slot was jammed with ice. Can see it opening on its own while backing up and draining the oil in the middle of nowhere. I use a piece of copper wire to fix it in place. Cheap and effective.

After considering both the Fumoto and the ValvoMax oil drain solutions, I went with ValvoMax. Just seems like a more secure product to me. I receintly changed my oil and installed the ValvoMax, after several hundred miles no leaks. I think the ValvoMax is a very strong and well made product and I am actually looking forward to mext oil change.

I like the look of their product, but does it require a tool of some type that threads or presses in to do an oilchange? I kinda love that the Fumoto doesn't require any tools.

Well, I need an air compressor to free the slot from debris before the lever can even be moved =)

Admittedly at that point I don't think I'd do a quick-change valve and would stick with a drain plug and crushwasher! I don't put valves on my drain pans on dirtbikes either!

Yeah, I may just do the same. Also would fabricate a removable oil flow guide that sticks to the skid to prevent oil splashing all over the plate.

If your skidplate is steel, something magnetic would be +cool

I bought my Tundra used and it had the TRD Skid Plate on it already. Mine pops and makes noises. Does yours or anyone else's make noise? I think they installed it wrong as I have never had this on ones that I have installed.

$15 magnetic parts tray from Harbor Freight, hit one end with hammer to flatten and shape it a little, quick angle grinder action to give it a pour spout?

Removal of the oil filter housing requires the use of a tool also, I fail to see the issue there. I keep all the items for my oil changes in the Motivex tool box, sans torque wrench. No problem I can see.

A specialized tool though? I went to a Jowett Performance billet filter housing myself, so the only thing I actually need's a decent size adjustable wrench, if I don't have the convenient 2.5" deep socket handy. Oil drain plug swapped to Fumoto so I just pull the tabs and move the lever to drain the oil, and then save thing for draining the filter housing, EZ Drain on that one. It's ridiculous how convenient oil changes are now.

I have a Fumoto but yet to install cause I do 63393 to prevent oil from reaching the top of the skid.

That's what the asshole at Jerry's Toyota did to mine. I took it back made them clean it and got a free oil change.
