Just bought a 2015 CM last week because I wanted something with a little more power for towing than the Tacoma I was using. On Thursday of last week, I ordered the wiring harness to connect my Prodigy P2 to the factory harness. When I ordered it, etrailers.com told me that it would be here in time for me to use it for our trip this coming weekend (Memorial Day weekend). Fast forward to this afternoon and I get a call from etrailers.com to tell me that the harness is on back order for three weeks.

Sooooo, I say all that to say this - now I have to come up with a solution to hook up my brake controller within the next 4 days.

I sort of doubt any local store is going to have a P2-to-2015 Tundra harness on the shelf... I don't think I can order one online and get it by Friday. Is it possible that Toyota can order an "open-ended" harness that I can hard wire to the P2 and then plug into the factory Tundra harness?

And why on earth does the Tundra not come from the factory with that "open-ended" plug like the Tacoma's do??? Don't they realize that lots of people buy Tundra's for towing????

Toyota is taking its time with the brake controller. I don't know why. I had that dilemma myself a few months ago. I ended up at the dealer and the tech pointed me to the connector. If you have the towing package, you'll find it behind the little panel by your right knee as you sit at the wheel. That little panel includes a couple of option buttons and one of them is the TOW/HAUL switch. Carefully open that panel using a plastic putty knife or other tool and find the white connector. It has several small control wires and two large power wires. That's the connector you or your auto electrician need to tap into to install your brake controller on your Gen-3 Tundra. My P3 is/was not compatible to that connector. I had to break the wires and splice and now I'm towing fine. Installing your brake controller is not hard. I hope this helps you.

What a PIA. They could at least offer a connector until they get the factory unit sorted out.

I completely agree. I spoke to the dealership yesterday to be sure they didn't just "forget" to include the harness. Nope. They confirmed that Toyota doesn't provide one with the Gen 3's because they offer the optional factory brake controller. Just as I was about to butt in and say something about that, he continued, saying that they could not get the brake controller from Toyota. He said the only way they can get one is if it's a replacement of one that came from the factory with the brake controller. They actually have to provide Toyota with a VIN (which has to show the controller as an option) before they will send one to the dealer. Crazy....

I was able to find the P2-to-Tundra harness from a place in Michigan. I paid $16 for 2-day shipping, so I should be good to go.

We are almost ready to offer our brake control mount that we make for the P3 for the P2. We did some research on all of the different controllers and the P3 and P2 seemed to be the preferred controller for most people. Toyota even issued a PANT bulletin stating these 2 controllers are the preferred by Toyota as well. This is the prototype before powder coat. I know Tim likes it with the silver, but it needs to be coated so it doesn't tarnish for those near the beach.

Yes, i was reading the brake controller manual and it states that the controller needs to be leveled. Mine ended up at a decline. Ill buy that section of the panel that has the space for a brake controller and install it similarly to the way you guys have posted. Thanks for the great ideas.

Yup. It's done, we're just on vacation. I picked them up Saturday before we left. Didn't have time to make any up. I will post when we get back.

It sticks out about 1 1/2- 1 3/4 inches out of the dash.

Amen to your last two sentences. In fact, all trucks should come with brake controllers already installed! Regardless of whether one hauls lightweight or heavy duty monster weight!
