2016 with just over 40k getting “Trailer Brake Controller Error, see Dealer.” No ABS or other lights. Was intermittent in January this year but now it stays on. I was not towing anything nor do I have a trailer with brakes. Anyone have any luck figuring this out?

You can try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes to see if it clears the error. That fixes it for some folks.

In my case my case (2016 tundra) the trailer menus disappeared from the display console which indicated the trailer brake control unit is dead. Installed a new unit from the dealer and then it all started working well again. So far it's the only thing that has failed on my truck in 8 years.

I appreciate it, I’ll give it a try. My menu displays but with no numbers or ability to change anything on that screen.

The OE brake controller is notorious to fail like you're experiencing. Aftermarket options will eliminate this from occurring again...Redarc, prodigy, etc. are solid options for later configuration...

Thanks, I have my eye on the Tekonsha P3 if this unit has failed. I’ll have to research the others you listed.

I too have heard the OEM one is surprisingly unreliable. In more than one way!

I'm using the P3 with the custom panel for it to fit on the dash.

Disconnected negative terminal for two minutes and message went away but now no more trailer page . Any ideas?
