Right now I live in the 'burbs with houses (and kids) all around. I would have a very uncomfortable conversation with the neighbor. If that squirrel was in my backyard, there would have been no way for it to get there unless someone shot the arrow upwards. A miss could have very bad resuults.

Ingredients:

• 1 squirrel, quarted pieces
• 1/4 cup flour
• 3 tablespoons butter or oil, for frying
• 3 bacon strips, fried and crumbled
• 7 cups chicken broth
• 1/2 teaspoon coriander
• 1/2 teaspoon homemade garlic powder
• 1/2 teaspoon homemade onion powder
• 1/2 teaspoon homemade poultry seasoning
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste (optional)
• 3 potatoes, chopped
• 1 onion, chopped
• 2 cans crushed tomatoes with juice

Directions:

In a Dutch oven, heat the butter on medium. Sprinkle salt and pepper on squirrel pieces, then roll in flour. Fry squirrel in butter until brown on all sides, then remove and allow to cool. With a fork, separate squirrel meat from the bones. Cut meat into bite-size pieces as necessary.

Add all ingredients, except the tomatoes, into Dutch oven and simmer for 1 to 2 hours. Add the tomatoes and juice to the pot and simmer another hour.

 

I'd be a little upset if they did that. I don't have problem with shooting squirrels. I have a problem with not putting the squirrel out of it's misery.

 

Actually that is not surprising to me. Many years ago I was squirrel hunting and they were just not moving. On the walk out of the woods I saw a large nest and just fired one 12 ga. blast into it. I heard thrashing and then a squirrel ran out of the nest and about 10 feet or so along a branch, then just dropped to the ground. When I picked it up, I saw that I had blown half it's head off. It had that reaction with pretty much no brain left.
