@flatlandclimber, is that a local supplier for the trailer or something available in all areas? Do you have any details or a link to the trailer?

They are in Hastings, NE. They will ship, I'm sure, but it's a plywood box. There's certainly somebody building them up in Canadia. There are also MUCH nicer little campers, but this fits our needs very well.

I would have liked to build one, and may someday, but we've been pretty happy with it.

I'd rather be in a tent, but my wife doesn't care for camping in the winter, and I hate Midwest summers. This is a nice compromise.

Nice to see all the rigs, the set ups! I especially like to see the Gen 1 trucks, what they pull. Wife and I are currently in a class C and looking to slow down some, be more able to drop the TT and rive around. We'd like to find for a TT to pull behind our '05 Access, TRD 4x4 w fiberglass topper. Not sure how much "real" weight I can get by with, comfortably. I'm thinking not to exceed about 22' in length, 4000 lbs dry weight?, if there is such a TT out there, nicely used.

Any suggestions on weight margins, as in what's a good dry weight for the 4.7 4x4 to comfortably pull. By comfortably, I'm saying...not straining and gear shifting in and out constantly.

    Thanks!

There are some slightly used Airstreams out there that come in around 4,000 lbs and are 22' like mine. We got it 3 years ago, new off a dealers lot. With all our stuff we are sitting around 4,200 lbs and our tongue weight is 500 lbs. (I have a scale).

Our 22 Limited pulls it without any effort. Airstream made some recent changes and made the 22' units heavier and more tongue weight so you end up using more payload.

I have seen some near new 22's (Look for the Sport Bambi) on Airstream Classifieds for a reasonable price.

We are enjoying our micro Minnie. 3900 lb. Dry. Tows greats and we towed it with the old Taco we had originally. You will end up doing mods on whatever trailer you get so break out a second wallet.

Covid project. Ez hauler 14x7 all aluminum. Rv heater, water, propane, solar, AC and DC wired, etrack, and drop down bed. 12.5ft left for the quad and go kart. I wanted something that has everything at a minimalist approach but can still hold my toys. No one builds this so I took it upon myself.

    Nice!
So the olde Taco managed this much dry weight, that’s nice to know. I bet with the 5.7 it must be effortless then.
I’m guessing the 4.7 would be well suited for this too.
My old 2001 4x4 Taco always felt like it was straining, especially on hilly roads. I pulled a 3500 dry weight TT back then and almost always struggled along.
I’ve never pulled anything beyond my small cargo trailer, with about 1500 - 2000 lbs at the most, with my 4.7. But even then, on hilly roads, the shifting rpm’s was always going up and down.

I could upgrade to a newer Tundra, but I am so comfortable in my ‘05. Hate to mess up a good thing, and go in debt again for something I really don’t need.

I'm looking to buy a used, 2005 Nash 22' TT. The dry weight is listed at 4055, gross weight is at 6900. According to my Tundra book Max towing capacity is 7000 lbs, but the brochure states 6900. With having a topper on I know I lose that weight. I guess I'd be right on the line, and this is likely not good???? Thoughts....

Sounds like the Nash is a double axle. I would think that you probably wont carry 3,000 lbs of cargo in the trailer. Best to load the trailer and check the tongue weight and actual axle weight if you are able to. A Cat scale will help. The issue you will run into will be the payload of your truck. If you are able to get the trailer up to 6,900 lbs. you would probably have a tongue weight of about 700 to 900 lbs. add a weight distribution hitch and you wont have much payload left over for people or stuff in the truck. What does your payload sticker say (on the drivers door frame)?

It's not good, 1325 lbs, and I have the topper. I think I need a newer truck, if I'm going to tow a TT. I haven't had to look at Trucks in years, what with my '05 doing nearly everything I've always wanted in a truck. I wonder what year's used would be a good buy? I do not like the looks of the new Tundra's. I like a long bed, four doors. Man, this sucks. This Nash TT is a great deal. Too bad.

I wouldn't drop the idea. It sounds like it can work by moving things around. You can make it work if you can put everything you need in the trailer and keep the payload for the people and trailer tongue.

The trailer gives you a lot of carrying capacity. If you place 1,000 lbs of cargo in the trailer even distributed, you could see a maybe 100 pounds of payload hit! You would be under in actual payload and towing capacity. You would just need to adjust how you load things.

Always shoot for greater than 10 percent of the actual trailer weight (determined from a truck scale) for your tongue weight to keep things stable and avoid fishtailing. So if you have ~5,000 lbs with the loaded trailer, your tongue weight would be say 600 lbs. You can move your stuff inside the trailer to get the tongue weight to where you need it.

We lived in our 23' TT for 7 months and took a bunch of stuff. Didn't even come close to maxing the trailer. I have about 4100 MT and 6,080 gross. One key is to live off potato chips not pasta sauce. I'm still looking for the dehydrated bottled water to further reduce or traveling weight.:)

I hate passing up this Nash TT, but I’m not comfortable having to always be calculating and worrying about my weight. So, I may go on a “dust” diet too!

Our payload sticker says: 1,399 lbs. so not too much change from your 1,325 lbs. Towing maximums are more for competition with the Big 3.

We have a higher towing capacity (~11,000 lbs.) but that is really just for marketing because our payload runs out much quicker. If we had an 11,000 lbs trailer, we would have a tongue weight of 1,100 lbs min and another 100 lbs for the hitch. Nothing left for anyone to be in the truck!

Based on my research I’ve decided to order this one for our next trailer. Check out some of the reviews on YouTube.

Just got into camping with family in a 2019 Coleman 295 QB (33 feet long) + 4door tundra, guessing its 16 feet long. Having fun, but hard to find a gas station I can get in while towing it. Any pro tips for finding trailer friendly gas stations?

My rig is about 7 feet shorter and I need to plan before I pull in for gas. Most stations will work especially those on the left side of the road with the lane closest to the road open. If course the bigger stations like Loves and Pilot have larger lots giving you more room to get lined up. One thing, you do have less choices for a quick fill up so I often use this wait time to go back and do an inspection of the TT and TV.

My Airstream is about 22' long and I have a 3" lift on it which allows me to get into most places.

The axle manufacturer (Dexter in my case) should offer an axle lift for various trailers. Makes a huge difference with clearance. In our case, we have no ill effects while on the highway.

I wouldn't be afraid to tow a lifted Airstream. Any slab-sided trailers I would be concerned.

Leave the house with a full tank of gas.
Pack a jerry can full of gas.
If there’s a gas station near your camping area then fill up before you hook up your trailer to return home.
Plan your route and use Google maps satellite view to find gas stations along your route that’ll work.

Thanks, I like the jerry can idea. I don't know how my dad was able to take us on trips in a TT without Google maps. He just used an atlas.
