Nebraska and Wyoming is what I heard. We're supposed to get a pretty descent view here in Colorado. Just put the tundra in 4wd, head straight north and avoid the traffic!

We live where the yellow star is upload_2017-8-12_6-24-17.jpg and that's close enough for me, that's our 41st anniversary so the wife and I will be sittin' on the patio watching it.

So we bought eclipse viewing glasses in May. This morning I got an email from Amazon that said this:

    "Hello,

We’re writing to provide you with important safety information about the eclipse products you purchased on Amazon (order #114-9129251-7629048 for Daylight Sky G021 Plastic Solar Eclipse Glasses with Carry Case, Adult Size, Cool Style and Look, CE and ISO Tested, Safe Solar Viewing, (3 Glasses and 3 Cases), 3 Piece).

To protect your eyes when viewing the sun or an eclipse, NASA and the American Astronomical Society (AAS) advise you to use solar eclipse glasses or other solar filters from recommended manufacturers. Viewing the sun or an eclipse using any other glasses or filters could result in loss of vision or permanent blindness.

Amazon has not received confirmation from the supplier of your order that they sourced the item from a recommended manufacturer. We recommend that you DO NOT use this product to view the sun or the eclipse.

Amazon is applying a balance for the purchase price to Your Account (please allow 7-10 days for this to appear on Your Account). There is no need for you to return the product. You can view your available balance and activity here:

    https://www.amazon.com

For more information about safely viewing a solar eclipse please see the NASA and AAS websites.

If you purchased this item for someone else, please pass along this information to the recipient.

We hope to see you again soon.

    Sincerely,

    Customer Service"

When I checked my order, the seller's feedback page came up. There were a lot of complaints from people who had apparently gotten the same email. The seller's comment is this:

"Despite Amazons recent email I would like to reassure you of the following. We would not knowingly endanger the health and safety of our customer by selling a product that could cause harm. Our glasses are NOT counterfeit and have been tested and passed to ISO standards multiple times. They have passed this standard and this testing has been completed by a laboratory that is approved by Amazon. The original ISO report was not accepted by Amazon as it was not on the list of approved testing companies, the product was then removed from Amazon at the end of July. As soon as we were notified of this by Amazon we had the glasses to be retested. The glasses passed retesting on the 11th of August and this was immediately sent for verification by Amazon. We believe however that this was too late and Amazon already had sent out the email informing customers that the glasses may be unsafe. We are honouring all refunds with no return requirement. If you feel uncomfortable or do not believe our words vs Amazon please discard the glasses. However, I will reassure you again, the glasses have PASSED ISO testing multiple times with different testing companies. If you are still unsure please reach out to us and we can provide copies of the most recent testing certificate. Regards, Joseph Harwood Director Tried-and-true Products"

I sent the seller an email asking for test results and certificate of compliance. Within a couple of hours he sent the COC. It looks legit, but one of the websites for the lab links to a Canadian Viagra pharmacy??? Anyway, thoughts?

For what it's worth, as soon as they arrived I put them on and looked directly at the sun with no ill effects.

I live just north of the red center line around the first purple line. Should be great viewing around here. The school I teach at has called off classes because of the huge amount of people they are expecting around her. Emergency services recommended us calling off due to their inability to react to an emergency.

I can't find them anywhere online or in store. All sold out. I guess I get to use the pinhole method. Last partial eclipse, I tried stacking 5 pairs of sunglasses to see it. I still saw spots after.

If you have access to a welding helmet, it will work too. I've heard you want a normal one, not an automatically darkening one.

With a minimum no. 12 lens, 14 preferred, according to NASA. 14 is the darkest, so you need to check if the helmet already has a lens. 12 and 14 are unusually dark for most welding.

    Just before it all disappeared:
    upload_2017-8-21_14-51-58.jpg
It was hidden for about 45 seconds here. Long enough for our dusk to dawn lights to come on, the birds seemed a bit confused for about 5 minutes before totality.

Got back last night from watching the Eclipse from the mountain range of John Day (hwy 395) Oregon. I've seen several partial eclipses in my life but never one from totality. I can easily say, it was one of the most incredible sights I have ever seen in my life. I envy those in line to watch the next one to cross the states in 2024 and can only hope to still be alive in 2045 for the next one to cross over the western US. Pictures and video don't reflect what it really looks like in person.
