just absurd levels of hp on that truck if you opt for the top of the line version, 775 hp and like 650 ft-lbs torque

The '22 and '23 are the same - I just happen to have the '23. When I hit the pedal it moves. So its not the fastest 0-60 but when I'm cruising down the highway at 75 and need to pass someone, I mash that pedal and I'm at 90 in no time. The acceleration is unbelievable IMO but then again Lamborghinis are built around a Twin-Turbo 3.5L V6.

I love that everyone comes here to bash their rigs and talk shit but the reality is we all own our trucks for some specific reason(s) or another.

Agreed, my non hybrid is plenty fast, it’s not even broke in yet

    Gotcha. I wasn't implying 5.9 0-60 was slow, I'm sure it's peppy compared to the old 5.7.

It is. I haven’t driven the non hybrid powertrain but the hybrids are very snappy. Especially passing power and 40 rolls

I wonder how much of that is the hybrid and how much is the small turbos? They spool up so fast there is no lag (on ecoboost, the 3.4 is similar I imagine). I remember the first time I towed my boat I accidently hit 100 on hill passing a semi.

I can say that the gen 3 tundra seems like everything is effortless compared to my 5.7. Some of that seems to be the excellent 10-speed.

the torque peak at 2,400 rpm is really something, you can really tell in real world driving.

I love it. Comes in real handy while passing at highway speeds. Cruise along at 65mph, come up behind a Sunday driver, slide over to the next lane and touch the gas. Boom, 85mph and the pass is made. No struggle at all, even on big hills.

I had been shopping for a TRD Pro, and finally got a line on one, THEN, a 2023 Raptor popped up at a local dealer. Went there and was surprised at MSRP asking ($81K). Needless to say, I’m not TRD Pro shopping anymore. I’m happy with this decision.IMG_0780.jpg

To answer the thread question I wouldn’t buy either one. Half ton prices are crazy and it doesn’t made sense to buy one anymore. I’m going for an stx godzilla ford f350 or 6.6/10 speed gmc/Chevy HD next for the same money.

I still enjoy driving my stock 2016 Tundra with the 5.7. It’s not winning races but it effortlessly gets around and never feels underpowered. I grew up driving trucks from the 80s and 90s so my 5.7 romps in comparison. My truck before this was a 1999 F150 V6 and it was glacial although solidly made and trouble free. Just zero scoot.

    The 1980 stock Camaro Z28 I owned with 350 engine (5.7 Liter) - 0 - 60 in 8.5 seconds.
And it will get stuck going over the Costco parking block.

To be honest up to this past weekend. I am still in awe of the Toyota 5.7 from a performance aspect.
I probably got 10-11 mpg in that Camaro. But it didn't matter because gas was like 45 cents a liter in 1980. Canada had just gone to metric liters.

My Tundra is a brick rolling down the highway, loaded with gear and stuff, effortless driving and returned me 12.5 liters/100kilometers.
    19.5 mpg this past weekend.

    6.5 seconds for my 2018 Tundra 0 - 60
    6.2 seconds for the new Tundra 0 - 60

Have never felt a desire to put a supercharger on.
It doesn't make sense to me to put a supercharger on a vehicle that will never have the stopping and cornering capability to match the acceleration.
My truck just seems rounded and balanced as it is.
But thats just me having raced in the past on a track, and almost killed myself when younger a couple of times in my 993 and a couple other cars.

Wow that's awesome, I didn't know the 5.7 was capable of getting close to 20 mpg.

My 2021 SR DCLB 2wd has been seeing 17 and even 19 mpg tank averages lately, now that the weather is nice and there's no warm up time. I'm a little surprised. The 2015 DCLB was 4wd with an 8' cap on the bed and saw 14 mpg for 4 yrs. I was expecting maybe 15 mpg with the 2wd. I'm surprised myself. I haven't really worked it hard yet, so I expect averages to be much lower in the future, but the 2015 never got anywhere near a 19 mpg tank average, no matter what.

I’ve done 19+ a few times (not on winter blend, lol). It’s a 2006 design, and you gotta stick to 2006 speed limits on the highway (around 65mph) to get those numbers.

    It’s a dinosaur, but I love it.

Yeah every time I turn the truck off, it shows the average for the current tank. I was a little surprised to see 19, but I'm not gonna get too excited. I'm sure it will be down to 15-16 before I fill up again.

Add in enthusiasm and you knock off 25%. So it gives me my cake allows me to eat it every so often.
To give you real perspective - you have a 4runner correct ?
When both are loaded down and driven to get good mileage the Tundra burns through 2.0 Liters of gas ($1.50 a liter ) every 100 kilometers (60 miles) more than the 4Runner.

JMO - anyone that grew up driving stick and learned how to shift based on engine revs and the sound is able to temper the tundra gas pedal with the engine noise, and make sure engine revs are in better spots with that archaic but reliable transmission, and get decent mileage.

I could never touch 20 in my 5.7 tundras, no way. downhill in N with a sail maybe.

I was 12-13 in winter and 14-15 maybe in summer, it was just a pig.

    that said, I didnt really care, I still wanted a 6.2 V8 I-force in the Gen 3.

so far, very limited miles, but this Gen 3 is freaking awesome truck

I used to hypermile my 6 speed diesel Jetta, was able to get upper 60s without much effort, fun game on road trips. Keeping speed low and staying out of the turbos is key, same with these current trucks. I get get into the low 20s if I am careful which is pretty awesome with 35" tires. But mostly I'm 16-17 as per my last tank below.

I don't know what we are getting in the 4Runner, with the lift and 33" tires I bet it's 13-14 mpg.

    Yep.
I assume it's accurate enough. I honestly don't pay much attention to the fuel stuff, aside from just needing to know when I need to fill up next. I do notice that my 2021 does better than the 2015. Exact same truck except for 2wd and no cap this time.
I don't think the 2011 kept track of fuel consumption. I hand calculated for a road trip when I first got the 2011, just out of curiosity. But didn't religiously keep track after that.
2011 CM and 2015 DCLB averaged roughly 14mpg while I had them. Both 4wd and weighed around 5500lbs. New truck weighs 5200 and 2wd. I'd say it averages 15-16 mpg overall. But I'll see 17+ once in awhile, within a single tank of fuel. I don't really drive differently, so I'm thinking weight (and still on factory tires) has everything to do with it.

Yeah MPG doesn't mean much to me either these days. I spend probably 3x in ethanol free for the boats annually than I do on both our trucks.

A good percentage of your gas is made from our Oil. If you were paying what we pay you would think about it just a little more. 8^0
The Biden Administration just started buying oil again to fill the US SPR. The price floor is in and driving season here.
Unless there is a big recession I expect big drawdowns every week going forward - higher prices. JMO.

Yeah - all boats, lawnmowers, chainsaws, snowblowers etc.... get super no ethaonol.

Yall's taxes suck for sure. Not sure what your prices are there but I'm paying about $5.50 a gallon at the marina right now for E-0. And the 2-stroke 150 HP is a thirsty girl.
