I am wanting to convert my 2nd gen from a 12v system to a 14v system. Has anyone done this and how did the electrical system handle it? I already have a 14v battery and an alternator that can be bumped to charge a 14v system. Not sure if tundra electrical can handle the 16v needed to charge the batt.

I can't imagine how this would be worth the work or why one would do this?

About my 5th thought was regarding a failed custom alternator when out of town with minimal resources.

JM2C and the least of your issues but any remaining incandescent bulbs would be smoked at 15.5 16V....

The list of electronics compromised at peak charging of 16 could be long. I would not recommend this unless for some reason if for something you tow and say you added a second alternator and battery and kept it all independent...

I am currently running a 5k amplifier(under rated) and was wanting to pull a bit more out of it without having to go with a second alternator route for now, since there are no prefab aftermarket second alt brackets. Also looking at a 800watt for my doors.

I have my alt bumped up to 14.5v, didn't wanna go higher without others input as I don't wanna replace any expensive electronic components.

Guess it's just a waiting game to beef up electrical even more. Second LTO bank, second alternator, etc.

Everything in your truck is used to running at 14v. Not sure what you mean by converting it? Most electrical items in the truck will run on a range of voltages from 11 or so up to 15 or so without issue.

14v system requires a minimum of 16v from alternator to charge. I am running a bank of 35ah LTO batteries that has a nominal 13.8v and a peak of 18v. My current 14.5v alternator setting charges the LTO to 13.5v. I was looking to get better performance out of LTO running at 16v charge from alternator if possible. Doesn't sound possible with this truck. Some older chevys were fine at 16v alternator charge. Running amp at 16v would drop me to about 400amps which is closer to my 370a alternator

I will gracefully bow out as I’ve never heard of a need for this and the only vehicle I’ve ever heard of switching voltages was an older Bug from 6v to 12v.

You may need to run separate electrical systems or run a step down for the factory side of things. Post some info on your setup. 5k amp? Interested in seeing some info on that. Most multi-thousand watt amps are anything but.
