I have an 07 Tundra 145,000 miles on the 5.7 2wd. This problem has happened 3 times in 2 years of ownership. Jump in, start the truck, let it get fluids moving around before I drop it in D. I head up the road about 3-4 miles and stop at a store. Shut the engine off and go into the store for maybe 5-10 minutes. (80+ degrees out) when I try to start the truck it turns over and starts but immediately stalls. I do the same thing again and same happens. IF I push the gas pedal it stalls out instantly too. It maybe runs for a couple seconds. This happens about 6-8 tries, then it starts and runs fine. Scares me to take it on a long trip. Any thoughts out there?

I would start at the battery terminals. If they're loose or corroded they will do some weird stuff.... Maybe look into replacing the Alt fuse and relay. My Tundra has never behaved that way, only when the battery was pretty much dead, it would leave me stranded usually in the middle of nowhere, but my Celica does similar things, but usually dies completely... I usually have to steal my own car by jumping the starter relay with the key in the ignition for it to start.

Do you top off tank when filling up? Evap system could be saturated.

It happened to me once just after a mechanic scan the truck
he said its something to do with anti-theft system reseting
    it sounded weird at first.,
but locking and unlocking the truck with the remote cleared the code as he had the scan on the truck

Ditto on the batt terminals...the factory ones are cheap IMHO...I replaced my + terminal with a real traditional terminal with a raised/threaded connection stud for the hot wires.

I find it difficult to believe it's anything with the battery. It cranks over fine every time. Just my opinion after 50 years of driving and owning 150+ vehicles. But then again these newer cars with computers leaves me ??????? at times. I don't drive the truck much and when it sits it is battery tendered. I will keep looking but it's hard to diagnose a glitch that happened 3 times in 2 years. Thanks all.

Happens to me every 6 months or so. I keep my valet key with me, the brown one, so when it does happen i switch to the brown key and it always starts right up. Next trip I switch back to the black key and it's all good for a while.

Seems to me leaving the black key in the ignition for a period of time after I've shut the truck off triggers it. I also have an anti-theft code active and have for a long time.

AH HA! Now that makes sense as I did leave the key in the ignition while in the store at least twice as my wife stayed in the truck. Cool, THANK YOU!!

Does your key have a battery? May need replaced? I’ve heard of codes when the key battery is low.
