?

To Overland or Not to Overland

  1. I would like to join an Overland Detachment.

  2. I would like to enjoy trail leader, lead day trip(s) and return back to base camp to sleep.

  3. I would like to explore the trails by me, myself and I.

Watchin thru a couple vids I caught on my windshield GoPro. At the first real obstacle of Broken Arrow, the wall with 2 big ruts, and @TRDFerguson spotting me. First attempt was a bit too cautious and spun tires, so I roll back some feet to get a better run at it. Suddenly, the voice comes over the radio, with the best coaching I've ever heard, a pearl of wisdom no doubt. Jake says "Give it the beans!"
    Classic shit.....

I watched for far too long as a V8 4th gen T4R struggled uphill around a muddy corner on a trail this weekend. Dude kept trying to do the same thing to the same negative results. Til he finally unleashed the 2UZ. When in doubt, 2UZ it out. I truly love wheeling with a V8.

I think it was more like "okay Sid, just do your thing, cuz you're not going to listen to me anyways". Don't recall exactly how he said it, but that's how I heard it.

    Hell yeah!

We have a concept being thrown around the leadership team.

I know at a minimum my regular band of idiots, the Speed Glamper Uberfahrts, have wanted to run through Alaska. So I’ll keep your name handy to reach out for our little team of 6-10 trucks.

As far as T2S, we have an idea for a more adventurous experience that would happen maybe every other year, or somehow off cycle from the regular event. “Tundras to Someplace” would be like an old school rave or underground party. We’d announce dates 6 months in advance so people can schedule PTO. Then a while later we’d announce the region. Then the city, and like a week before the start date we’d drop coordinates. Limit it to some manageable number of trucks like 30 or something.

Would love feedback on the concept.

I guess for people that have to drive further to reach said coordinates, they would need a longer lead times and more PTO days, which means a longer than a week's notice.

A pick up service would actually be pretty sick. Adding that to the discussion topics.

I’m with Cruz - I’d suggest dropping the date and general location at the same time.

I’m honored to have been the one to place that there. I really had to ditch it after taking a hit to the dick with it on that fabled night run. Or maybe that happened later that night as payback for putting it there. My memory is a tad blurry for reasons.
