I've had my Tundra for about two months now.

Comfortable ride but with some quirks.

The auto brake feature is simply annoying. You really will find not to like it when it jams on the brakes a bit prematurely and unexpected. Sure the red brake indicator can light up and beep but when it jams on the brakes... what the?!?!?!?!?

The transmission I have mixed feelings on. Above 2k it shifts and is pretty smooth. Below 2k in normal mode is a bit of a different story. Sometimes it shifts where its either hunting or you just feel the shift and momentary hesitation.

Yesterday while coming to a stop at a light was an abnormal bump. Imagine the light was just about to change and you came to a harder than normal stop at a traffic light. (no engine shutoff nonsense enabled either) Right before a complete stop the truck surged a little bit like someone tapped me. First thing I do after I say WTF to myself was to look in my rear view mirror camera. Then I hit the view button to make sure nobody was on my tail. All looked fine.

Why the surge and clunk? Beats me. Drove fine after that.

Then we have the mystery items.... In my overhead console is a light lit up. (added pic)
Looked through the manual a bit and didnt see it. Why is this on? What the heck is it for?

I think most 10 speeds are a little quirky at low speeds, but the Toyota 10 speed is far superior to the 10R80 in Ford's IMO.

I remember a "bump" when coming to a stop with my Tacoma. Had something to do with the a/c being on or with the HVAC putting load on the engine when the RPM's were down.

i think that light means passenger airbags are off. did you have something in the seat? sometimes if the weight in seat (like work bag, etc) but no seatbelt it will turn off airbags

^^^ This. It means the passenger airbag is disabled. It happens automatically when it detects something in the seat but that something is below a certain weight.

Not saying it's true in your case, but most people who experience this are following the vehicle in front of them too closely, or backing up too fast when something is behind them. My auto brake has only come on when I got too close to someone or backed into my garage too quickly.
I agree it seems to hunt below 2K rpms. I drive on a lot of 20-25 mph roads and the truck does not like it.
The light is required by federal law and it notifies the driver the airbag is disabled for that seat. Not a Toyota thing. Every vehicle requires this now.

Just checked mine and sure enough it comes on with nothing in the seat, guess I never noticed. Pretty sure my old 4Runner only did it when there was something under a certain weight in the seat, but maybe not. Regardless the airbag should be off if there’s nothing in the seat.

Anyone know of how to remove the function of the parking brake engaging when you put it in drive, a little too fast, after getting in? There seems to be a small delay in registering the door closed, one I haven't gotten used to, even after a couple of years.
Somewhat annoying when getting in and out to open/close gates around the property.

I think 2-1 in a harder than usual stop may be typical for Aisin Warner transmissions. In their older transversal 5 speed transmission (REF23/AW55) the software in TCM tuned to shift 2-1 below 4 km/h, which is too slow for a smooth shift under such conditions. When people bump it up to like 8 km/h the gear slam is gone.

I turn off auto brake on every vehicle. Our first and last experience with it was on the way home in the wife's 2015 Acura with the car trying to brake when she went to accelerate around a vehicle that was turning right, nearly getting us rear ended. She stopped and turned it off and off it has stayed for the last 8 years, as well as on my 2021 F150.

Negative. That light will always be on if there is nobody in the seat. If someone sits in the passenger seat the light will go out as the airbag is enabled.

Has nothing to do with the seatbelt. SRS sensor is weight driven. If someone sits in the seat and does not put seatbelt on light will still go to ON

I believe you can set the auto parking brake to engage automatically when you put it in Park, or you can disengage it to be manual when you want it. Also play around with the “hold” which is a nice feature. This might be the ticket for you if your gate moving on a ranch or farm a lot. The owners manual has that info in the parking brake section.

Thank you, I'll take a look. The Hold option is awesome however disengages and automatically applies parking brake once seatbelt is removed.

Yes auto hold is great! Now to educate myself on the adaptive cruise control.

I hate the automatic distance for the adaptive cruise control. So much space for another car to go over and then bam! It forces the truck to kinda slam on the brake to give that vehicle the appropriate space. And the cycle starts again

You can’t disable the anti-rollaway function of the parking brake. It’s a federal law that all vehicles have these controls.

I found you can backup on a down hill incline, throw it in Park, hear the parking brake engage, let your foot off the brake and get some roll back. Keep that in mind if you are squeezing up to someone behind you!! I probably had a good 2"s of roll back.....ended up with 1/8" of clearance

I like this alot, takes some getting used to and way better coming from the f150. Also the text feature is really cool because you can "speak your reply" and it worked great.
Have to train yourself to use this tech and I'll start using it for traffic as road construction has gotten really frustrating lately.

I dunno. Seems to me the auto braking nanny would cause more accidents than it would save?

It's dangerous territory when people start thinking their truck/car computer knows better than they do.

It's just we need get re-educated with the new tech, I do understand it's not for everyone.

Me for one -I'm really enjoying this 2023 platinum on this beautiful day with all the windows down and roof open, what a ride! I washed the Tundra this morning and I was feeling good so I did the wife's rav4 too.
Glad to be back in a Toyota!!!

Learning it is one thing. Depending on it, and then getting a mind lazy streak, is dangerous, in more than one way.

I can understand a multi-million dollar fighter jet where the computer just needs human guidance. But a tank on a road, that's a different story IMHO.
