I recently purchased a low mileage 2008 Double Cab with a TPMS problem. It had the one minute blinking, followed by solid light condition indicating a system fault. I suspected a failed receiver so I tested it in another tundra and it tested good. I replaced the ECU and the light would then blink twice followed by solid. I assumed I'd found the problem and only had to update the ECU to extinguish the light. After a trip to the tire shop to have them scan and relearn the ECU, the light went out and I thought the problem was solved. About fifteen minutes later I noticed the light illuminated and now I'm back where I started with a one minute blinking light followed by solid.

If anyone has encountered a similar situation I could sure use some advice. Thanks.

dummy question, but are the tire inflated to the proper psi? I often go 5 over due to variation in temperature.

tpms battery life expectancy is 6 yrs minimum so i would say get a new set if you can’t find another solution

Tires are brand new Michelin's from Discount Tire installed yesterday along with four brand new sensors. It's my understanding (perhaps mistakenly) that if there was a problem with sensor to ECU communication the Low Pressure light would blink a couple times then go solid. With the light blinking for one minute before going solid indicates a system fault.

Would sensor to ECU communication cause a fault like that?

Take it back to Discount tire. I'm sure they would be able to sort something out

I learned a lot today. I did return to Discount Tire for a re-do on the tire balance. I had them rescan the tire sensors and once again “re-learn” the ECU. I was surprised that it appears to have solved the problem. So apparently if the ECU loses communication with a sensor you’ll get the same blinking light sequence that occurs with a receiver or ECU failure.

I know about discount tire, because they broke it down Barney style for me, while trying to sell me their sensors. I ultimately declined the swap and I still have the idiot light on. I do check tire pressure on a weekly basis, or anytime I think they're muffin topping.

I’m a tire tech for sams, usually when people come in with a tpms issue and don’t want to pay $35 for a shrader sensor, i’ll route them through Amazon and get a pre-programmed set. At my sams we only charge $5 install and do the reset

At the time I was being charged $250 per corner plus installation programing was free... Today its much cheaper.
