2023 Tundra TRD Pro Headliner Replacement

When the dealership installed a Toyota integrated dash cam in my new truck, the installer cracked the foam/fiber board and now it looks like bite marks. To make things worse they were totally disrespectful and left grease all over my vehicle.

I was pissed to say the least. Dealership is making things right and replacing visor and installing an entire new headliner. My question is, has anyone been through this process? I saw a YouTube video for a 2021 Tundra and it called for all seats and center console to be removed. I am not sure if this is the same case with a third generation, but it has me terrified on what else they could potentially do wrong.

After this experience, can I trust their technicians to replace every single bolt they remove!? Not to mention this may introduce squeaking if they remove the console.

Anyway, any insight on the topic would be appreciated.

 

Sadly work at the dealership or anyplace can be hit or miss. In my experience more misses, thus why I work on my truck myself most of the time. My 2016 AC system went down and I brought it in for warranty. They took apart the dash to get to all the AC items. During the process they scratch my tint on my front windshield. I replaced my radio in my truck a few months later and in the process of taking everything apart, I found that they left some tools in my truck and they did not replace every screw.

The headliner in my 2016 is a big job and hard to do without damaging the headliner. All I can say is review their work closely as many panels will most likely need to be removed and you want to make sure everything is tight when back together. I would test the fit of all of your panels and make sure they didn't break clips when the put it back together (panels aren't as tight).

Don’t see in the service manual anything about removing the seat or console for the 3rd gen for removing the head lining. Just have to remove the head rest for the seats. Other than that it’s the normal removing all the panels on the A,B, and C pillars. Then headliner comes out the rear roll down window on crew cab. Double cabs requires removing the back glass.

I uploaded a pdf of the instruction to remove the headliner from Toyota service information so you know what to check once the job done. Not sure if it uploaded correctly since I’m on my phone.

Edit: I must of missed it when I was skimming the instructions but you do have to remove the rear seats the get the rear c pillar panels out.

Thank you for the advice. They have ordered the part and said it would take a few weeks, but we shall see how the replacement goes.

 

Just amazes me - the lack of care that goes into working on someone's vehicle. I mean the technician knew he was going to be working in the interior of a vehicle, so he should have washed his f'ing hands. You know he had to notice the damage he did and the grease he left behind, but said NOTHING. I guess they thought they could get away with damaging someone's vehicle and leaving a mess.

I am sure a headliner is not cheap, so hopefully they at least get written up for their carelessness. Probably not and will be the same individual that installs the replacement headliner

 

Crack aside, those grease marks on the visor are yikes. That's just straight up disrespectful.

 

Exactly. In any situation it would be and especially on a brand new vehicle.

 

Sorry to hear about this. If this happened to me I would make them replace the beige headliner with a black one from a Platinum and replace or paint the beige trim pieces satin black for a way better looking TRD Pro interior

 

Have them replacement with the black headliner in the platinum!

Problem is most experience piece is the sunshade. Which they wouldn’t replace. But I’d still take this time to pay out of pocket for the pillars and pano shade to do it

I really like the interior of the platinum for this reason as well, it really looks the best

 

The black headliner is the way to go. I’m tempted to buy a TRD pro with red interior just so I could see what it would be with a black head liner

 

I was able to communicate to some very high up's with Toyota about the disappointment in the gray headliner in the PRO. Supposedly, the comment made it pretty far so I'm curious if it gets changed for the 24 MY

 

That would be great. In the black pro it’s ok but the red one just has too many clashing colors

 

I had the same issue when they tried to fix my loose headliner (they ruined the windshield seal trying to fix the headliner, and used the sealant to try and hide that they ripped the gasket out around the windshield and got it all over the headliner).

My truck with 4000 miles on it has been sitting in the shop since March 27th. They keep pushing the delivery date back a week everytime it gets to the date they claim it will arrive at the dealer. It’s been quite frustrating, hopefully you don’t have the same issue

 

Bumping this thread as my headliner will also have to be replaced under warranty. As I have the 2023 Pro with a beige headliner I’m going to see if they will order the black and let me pay for the other pieces to be black out of pocket. Fingers crossed for me!

 

I don’t understand how someone leaves a vehicle like that for the customer. The thing is that most of these mechanics are somewhat Toyota enthusiasts…if I was a mechanic I’d be trying to really take care of the vehicles… but I’d probably also be broke or fired for being to slow….

 

Well, no-go from Toyota on the color switch for the warranty headliner. Exact matches only on color under warranty. They quoted me ~$5k for an out of pocket black headliner swap, so mine will definitely be staying the mismatched gray/beige. One of the sales managers also offered that I could upgrade to a 2024 Pro to get the black trim and managed to keep a straight face
