Interchange 8in for 14in display?

Listed as New, but definitely NOT new. They are come the film still on the screen, but there are scratches on the frame around the vents. I haven't removed the screen film to confirm if there are scratches on there too.

Now we need someone to figure out the volume knob. Anyone has the wire diagram?

 

For aftermarket, you don't lose Toyota connect if it's already connected, but I'm not sure how someone has to pair their account again since there interface won't be there. Also, the dealership wouldn't approve of a swap like this.

Personally, I'm thinking about returning my OEM 14" and getting an Aliexpress screen if someone can confirm the backup camera works. A previous member stated his didn't work, and they're working on a solution.

 

I did OEM. There is no "blacklist". Everything works.. remote start, android auto/apple carplay, ect. The trucks works without the receiver in the dash and the remote connect for remote start works off the module in above near the rear view mirror. Maybe they blacklist the navigation? I dont know as I only use Android Auto. I dont know why they would as some ppl would pay $15 a month for it. As for the AC insert, I bought the Matte Black on Ebay and they fit perfect. I looked at aftermarket but they weren't ready yet because some weren't working with the backup cam because Toyota switched something up and they hadn't figured it out yet. The only real benefit of aftermarket is you can watch videos on it. The downside is software updates and support go away fairly quickly.

 

The volume knob is already figured out. You can buy the knob and then drill a hole into the plastic. The connector is already there to hook into.

 

Oh, wow. That's awesome. I'm going to install my 14" screen tomorrow and order the volume knob. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Your posts encouraged me to order the screen.

if your going 8-14 you need non jbl, ppl if you cant read the 5 pages of this thread and see where the topic started from, went to and ended up on. Do not blame anyone other then yourself if you buy a jbl head unit.

and yes more then likely the blacklisted is for navi, you still get everything else, I questioned the historical MPG screen, ppl say they work/function

 

What is everyone doing for the AC vent inserts?

 

Reuse the inserts from the 8" inch screen

Are you asking about the vent assembly that goes behind the faceplate or the two horizontal trim pieces that goes on the front?

Curious if anyone tried a Sirius subscription with their swapped head unit?

I know, I know. I use Apple CarPlay, but when you live in the sticks or go out on BLM land often…cell coverage is spotty (at best) and I use SiriusXM.

 

You can reuse the vent assemblies from the 8inch. As for the horizontal pieces in the front, you can leave as-is or buy the ebay covers.

 

Side note…I’ll have to keep an eye on the eBay seller. I don’t see that he has any non-jbl units for sale right now. I get the feeling that his inventory changes frequently though.

I purchased the Matte Black from eBay and I actually like them better than stock. But to answer your question, you move the insert over from your 8in unit and then purchased covers and it looks like it was from the factory.

What knob did you order? I’m assuming you’d at least need some kind of switch/dial assembly to plug in behind the dash. Seems like just the knob wouldn’t do it.

That’s a JBL unit…so no.

 

How do you know ? I pull up part number and can’t find it anywhere. Is there a list of part numbers of non JBL units and NON-jbl units

 

To be honest, since that particular ebay seller is good about posting pics of the actual unit in the listing...I just glance at the pic on the listing.

I try to keep an eye on various listings, primarily from this known seller, and I haven't seen a non-JBL 14" head unit listed for a least a month. I'm not hyper-diligent, but I do look every few days. They don't seem to come up very often, especially since the majority of 14" units seem to be spec'd with the JBL system.

The JBL versions will have the JBL logo on them while the non-JBL units won't.

Finally got my volume assembly after ordering through 4-5 different online toyota parts store.

 

Nice! I like that enough that I’m curious if the knob & assembly would work with the 8 inch screen.

 

I'm going to assume it'll work on the 8". I believe the volume assembly works independently from the screen, similar to the steering wheel volume control.

 

Do you know what's the difference between 861000C440 and 861000C361? They're both non-JBL and made in Mexico.

Would someone confirm that both head units listed above are non-JBLs? I’m looking to replace my 8” head unit. However, I see the 861000C440 as a JBL unit, and the picture(s) show the 440 as a JBL.

 

I haven't seen anyone replace their 8" unit with the 440. The 361 unit has DC12v, negative ground, and speaker 4ohm which is identical to the 8" inch unit. I believe the 440 unit is missing speaker 4ohm so it may not work, but try it out to see if it works because I haven't seen any C361 unit on eBay for a month or two.
