I just had a vehicle inspection and they told me my front end parts were worn. I had an alignment about a month ago and everything was fine. What happened was the inspection place jacked up one side of the front of my T100 and it showed play in the pitman arm, idler arm and tie rod area but when it is sitting on the ground there is no play at all. Wheel bearings (new) are tight as are the ball joints. Is it common for the parts to be loose like this and tight when there is weight on the suspension or are they indeed at the point of needing replacement? I'm thinking it is time for replacement parts.

I'm in South Central Missouri, I talked to several Alignment Shops today and they said to check it you jack the front end of the truck up off the ground (under the frame is best) and then check for any play. Mine does so I ordered the parts and it looks like one of my coming Saturdays will be busy. I spent some time in Tx at three different bases the last being Goodfellow at San Angelo.

When I was a kid we would go visit my Grand Parents in Palestine, Ark and play on the railroads track that ran through their front yard and walk down them to the L'Aguille River and shoot snakes, gar and turtles with 22 rifles.

It seems like the rear main seal tends to be a problem for the 5VZFE motors. My 2000 4runner leaked from the rear main seal like a sieve. Probably 5-6 QTS per 3000 miles.
I finally fixed it after 5 years of it leaking.

That is exactly what I used on my 4runner. Though I stick with Mobile 1 High Mileage fro my Tundra.

I'm using 5W-30 Castrol now, I'm thinking about switching to the 5W-30 High Mileage Castrol on my next oil change.

I have heard good things about Castrol, never used it myself. However my father and brothers use it. My brother was telling me one day something along the lines of, it is much cheaper than Mobile1 for the same performance and quality. I doubt I will switch but you never know....

Also, did the concoction of valvoline HM and oil stabilizer stop or slow the leaking significantly. My Pontiac G6 leak a little oil and I have considered the Lucas stuff, just not sure.

I started using Castrol about 40 years ago in motorcycles and shortly there after in my trucks and cars when I had them and have used it in everything else since except I ran Amsoil in my Roadstar. The 1981 in my avatar pic has about 280 thousand miles and all have been on Castrol.

Sounds like all you needed to do to your 4 Runner was change the filter every 3000 miles as it was changing it's own oil. Hopefully my 3.4's rear main will not start leaking.

AHH, I see what I did, I confused you with @aramirez73 , with that last question.

I will have to look more closely into Castrol though.

What does the oil stabilizer do? And don't say it stabilizes it, LOL.

Its a bit thick sticks to all moving parts inside not like oil that goes down to pan reducing dry starts

Probably worn but a lot of states I've lived in (career AF) they dropped the state inspections due to tons of fraud going on and I wish MO would do the same. If it were truly about safety you wouldn't see so many rolling trash heaps.

That is one thing about having your vehicle tied in with 'Personal Property Tax', the older the vehicle the less tax. We have some down here that looked they fell off one of those car haulers you see taking them to the salvage yard on a trailer. I think those people are the ones that try to park next to me at Wally World.

I need to take another avatar pic and add the T100 and the Wifeys Rav4 to it.
