I feel like this has all been a ploy conceived, hatched, and executed by Whipple or Magnuson to convince me to buy a positive displacement blower…

Well then the choice is clear, you need a Harrop. Those trusty Aussies would never put you through such an emotional roller coaster ride. They’re too busy boxing kangaroos.

Doubtful. I think the OP is keeping it under wraps.

Whatever this forum told me to do
I am perplexed as to why the Op did not leave with Stage 1.

There has to be considerable extenuating circumstances.

ex. I had to wait/be without my truck a WEEK just for a boost gauge. I was livid & singularly focused on getting the damn boost gauge installed & leaving there with my truck.

    5 months is GIANT.

Did Turbokits hit a liability issue? was it a money thing? was it simply tuning? I thought stage 1 was tuned?

    I need closure.

    I gots to know
    upload_2023-5-8_5-34-52.jpg

I qualify for answers due to running my Harrop Stage 1 untuned....that HAS to count for something. (other than my ignorance)

Unfortunately, the decision wasn't ours to make. When a customer, whom has been very accommodating, makes a request for their truck back, what are we to do, hold the customers truck hostage? No, we give them their truck back and move on.

but why remove all that work (stage 1)?

it makes little to no sense to bail on the whole project & convert the truck back to stock.

Was picking up the truck with Stage 1 even an option? why remove it?

I was all lathered up over this.

What we accomplished during this time was great and has put us right on the doorstep of being able to release the stage 2 kit, and completely through the door to be releasing our stage 1 kit shortly. Everything was going very well, we would make a hardware change, go through some back and forth map testing with the tuner, make some more hardware changes, do some more testing. It was progressing as expected. Keep in mind, when we reached out to the community, it was to test our Stage 1 kit. The owner of the truck wanted the stage 2 and part of the agreement for the testing, would be that he would get the stage 2 in the end. The stage 2 however, was not 100%, hence why the timeline kept expanding as we ran into the normal hurdles one would run into building something like this, when the tuner we had been using since day 1, had a major family emergency. The owner of the truck, did not want to wait out what could be an undetermined amount of time and opted to make the request to get the truck back, without the turbo installed. We offered to go back to the 4.5" MAF pipe, where we were running absolutely mint, but where limited (voltage wise) to about 7 PSI. The owner did not want that option. So here we are.

The stage 2 kit hardware is done, we just needed the tune to be finished up in order to show the proven results on the DYNO.

Are we disappointed, yes absolutely, we put A LOT of time, talent and $$$ into this build. Is there anything going on behind the scenes, not at all, we've been completely transparent through the whole process. Is there a fall out between us and the customer. Absolutely not, we are on solid terms. Sometimes, stuff just happens that delays or halts progress and the only thing that can be done is to regroup and move forward again.

I would imagine cost being one of the main factor.
In the first post, OP mentioned that apart from donor truck, he (OP) has to pay for the parts and labor (correct me if I am wrong) at a discount, nothing is free.
He was hoping to get to Stage 2, even had a Texas plate made for it. So in the unfortunate event that Stage 2 fell through, OP might just don't want stage 1 either, opt to go back to stock and live another day.
That's my understanding from reading the whole 19 page.
I am as bummed as everyone else is, I want to turbo my truck, too. But I guess I will have to wait another while for the Stage 2 to be working fine.

We feel the owner of the trucks opinion on the matter was "If it aint the Stage 2, then I don't want it"

But, just imagine the outrage if we had held the customers truck hostage or refused to put it back to stock. Unfortunately, this was a NO WIN situation. So we did what we felt was right by the customer.

The only thing we would have done differently really, would have been to have a more local customer for testing. When the end result is having a customer drive 2000 miles the minute after picking up a test vehicle. The attention to the tune and every detail gets magnified exponentially, thus causing delays.

Modding ain't for the faint of heart. I built a motor years ago that took over a year to complete (parts delays, numerous shops failing etc), & then blew a piston 4 months later.

    Good luck to all involved.

We will absolutely be releasing our kit, 100% guaranteed, just need to get another and more local truck to test... We may even just go buy another one at this point... LOL But either way, we will make sure we keep everyone as updated with as much info as we possibly can. Thanks!

Same, but if we gave up every time something didn't go our way or we got disappointed over things. We wouldn't have made it past our first year in business. We are confident this will end in success.

We appreciate the clarification @TurboKits.com things make more sense now. If I’m reading this right I guess if I were in Kens shoes, and an intercooled “stage 2” limited to 7psi was on the table that’s the route I’d have taken. The extra 30-40hp from bumping the pressure up to 9psi and a 5” MAF tube would have been nil in my opinion. It probably still would have been around 500whp at 7psi. That’s basically 95% of the way there to what was expected for the finished product I would think.

We all have different priorities and I don’t know Kens situation, but no way I personally could have left your shop with nothing after 5 months, but sounds like there’s nothing you could do about it. We were just looking forward to first hand experience of the kit from a forum member! Maybe someone else on the forum that is local would be interested.

The truck sure felt like 500WHP at ~7 PSI, that's for sure! Thanks for the feedback.

Where are you located? We'd love to keep it more local this time! LOL. Also, you can PM if you want to leave the personal info off the public space!! We literally have the turbo kit off Ken's truck sitting in our warehouse waiting for a new home. We have been scouring the internet, FB marketplace, etc for another Tundra to just buy ourselves, but man everything is so overpriced with the current vehicle market!

He's probably talking about IPT for the transmission builder. Seems like issues started a year or so ago.
That surge tank is slick. The whole build is.
