Thanks, that's all the confirmation I need.

I'm curious what the "(J)" and "(L)" designations are in your screencap.

So Shifty, do you have a set of Calipers, I bet if you check the pin diameter vs the hole diameter, you are going to find some numbers that might indicate why so much force was needed resulting in the breakage.
The set I used I had to mill a couple of thousands off piece to get it to fit, and the hole diameter was off.
I wanted a couple of thou interference fit, and a enlargement was required, but too big, the pins fall out.
Proper sizing is the job for a tiny reamer, but if necessary new pins in a size you need are available at McMaster Carr. Look under dowel. pins

Almost everyone has opinions on it. They have proven that they flow more. But they also filter less. Plus the oil can gum up the MAF sensor. Most are in the not worth it camp.

Made an attempt to partially remove the driver’s side timing cover so I could check the belt. Ended up breaking off the lower bolt underneath. Originally thought I was screwed but the entire screw came out of the hole along with the plastic and metal covering it. Took a closer look at the screws involved on both sides and it appears the screws in the center of each timing cover are corroded so bad, it would take a 10 mm bolt extractor to get them out. :(

So I got my passenger wheel bearing replaced sorry I only took two pictures, but we made some interesting discoveries; my inner seal was intact as no diff fluid was getting out onto the shoes or anywhere else. But it seems water made it’s way into the bearing housing areas, full of rusty fluid. We’re thinking the ABS sensor or the outer seal, but more than likely it was the 11$ o ring that seals the backing plate to the axle tube, mine was no longer a O and hella crusty and fragile.
Other than the C clip, getting everything off and pressed out was easy. We had to improvise when pressing the collar and bearing onto the backing plate and used the same method for the tone ring. I know we didn’t get the collar and tone ring EXACTLY back where it was, maybe 1/32 further away from the backing plate that originally so I will watch for leaking fluid at my drums. Bled that wheel cylinder and took it for a spin, the crazy grinding noise is gone!!!!! With a break for some tasty French toast, it took us about 2 hours start to finish. I will probably order another set of parts of the driver side and be ready when it starts speaking up.

What did you use for a press setup and adapter plates to get it done?

We had a 20t press, with the flat deck widened to 6 1/2” spread and a two piece black tool off of the rainforest. Those are mainly the removal tools, the stupid dies that come with the press we’re fighting us with the parking brake assembly on the back of the backing plate, so we ended up using some 3x3 angle iron clamped around the axle(two pieces so it sandwiched the axel and held the collar to be pressed)

Live 5 years in the rust belt and that feeling will quickly fade about your vehicle as you realize some things are beyond your control.

Let's be real, I'd never do that to myself or my vehicles. Someone could offer me a job for $300k/year throwing potatoes, but if it involved moving anywhere in the rust belt, that'd be a big fat "hell naw" from me. My comfort and my stuff are worth staying put.

Unwilling to adapt for $300k? Wow, most people in that role have their sacrificial winter vehicle and just take out the others in nice weather.

I did 4 years in NJ and one in Long Island. That’s enough NE for me for a lifetime. I’ll go visit, sure. And I can see the appeal of Maine or even Rhode Island. Even western PA. But f the tri state urban sprawl. I’d need 50 mil to stomach that.

Boston is cool. I could do 3-6 months there. But that’s my limit.

I love VT, NH, and really love Maine, it's got the kinda outdoors I prefer. The people are mostly f'n nuts like me, too. But I just wouldn't subject myself to the winters. Only way I'd do it is if I could spend the non-snow months there, then come to warmer places in winter.
