What were the first Gen wheel options?

Looks like I'm about to pickup the same wheels with tires @Elevatorguy guy has for 300. Will report back how it goes. I opted out of the other set I was looking at as it was $350 no tires.

Also 17 vs 16.

 

Do the people that have mounted those (can’t remember if it’s been answered in the other thread) use spacers when I stalling those? There is a set of brand-new takeoffs (with those same Dunlops) near me for $300…..

 

I have a set of 4 of these, with center caps that you can have, if you are interested. They fit the 1st and 2nd gen Tacoma and the 1st gen Tundra. I was going to use them for snow tires but I ended up just getting all season tires. I've owned them since new, they are in good shape, just dirty in the picture.

Free if you want them, I am in Cheyenne. They are at my brother's house in Monument, but I'm headed that way in two weeks. I'll haul them up if you are interested.

 

I just read your post. Your design actually looks much better in my opinion and 300 bucks is pretty cheap, but if you change your mind, my offer still stands.

 

Brand new takeoff near me usually sell for $800-1200 in this style. I'd buy it just to flip for $750 and take any cash offer above $600.

The rims on my truck are the SpongeBob star ones. Not in great shape at all as in tons of brake dust looks to be caked on. I was imagining taking the new ones off to put the old ones back for winter and thought to myself would I actually do that considering how beat they are.

Haha someone help me decide. Either way if passing through at all it'll be fun to meet up not sure if Denver is in route between Cheyenne and monument.

The funny thing is my neighbor just got back from a trip to monument a few days ago.

 

Definitely had that thought. I had another option for the Tacoma 16" black ones for 400. These 4runner ones are 17".

So there were no valve stems. I put some in and was able to set the bead. The bead was not broken on the back side of the rim just front. Guess is for the TPMS sensors that were likely moved over to their new wheels.

Not quit sure if the '01 limited had tpms or not. I imagine not. But anyway I'm guessing balance will be off considering the tpms is heavier than the plain valve stems. Thoughts from anyone else on this? Otherwise tire hadn't moved on the rim since the bottom bead was intact.

 

DensoParts.com will have the correct TPMS part numbers for you. Note that Denso makes sensors for alloy wheels and steel wheels, and sometimes DensoParts.com's part finder only lists the steel one. If you need help with picking the correct OEM sensor, give a holler.

 

I have the same stock rims, and yes, they remind me of Spongebob They have a porous finish and collect LOTS of brake dust. I've thought about using the TRD rims in place of them, but I just can't justify the cost of swapping and rebalancing them.

You definitely made the best decision as far as good looking Toyota rims if you picked up those 4runner rims! I like the color contrast with the black base on them and the "spoke" design. You should post a picture when you get them on your truck. You can't beat the 1st gen Tundra in my opinion.

 

Yeah I'm excited. I got them and put in some regular valve stems and was able to set the bead. I'm just not sure if they're still balanced. Even though the back side bead wasn't broken makes me wonder the difference of weight between regular valve stems and the tpms ones would be enough to throw it off.

I went to a local shop near by to see if they might balance them for me on the cheap but looks like they're only open on week days.

I'm considering slapping them on tomorrow and just seeing how the ride feels. If it's smooth call it good if not get them balanced.

Spoiler: I had these guys on my truck, powdercoated bronze. I miss them.

 

I have a set that were removed right about 175k miles. Never put much thought into selling them. They need to be refinished, paint flaking off. Some surface corrosion that could be removed with a scotch brite wheel and then prime and paint. I work in collision repair and have the ability to refinish the wheels and have them professionally painted by my co worker in your choice of color. I’d want to sell them refinished for full value. Lmk if interested.

 

I’m not running spacers, Never been a fan of them. Congrats on the new wheels. I paid $400 for mine and sold the aftermarket wheels that were on mine for $200. I need tires, They’re perfect tread wise but they’re 7 years old.

 

Thanks! They are now mounted. Yeah I don't think spacers wouldn't give much value with these wheels. I like how they look as is. Ultimately walked away with $300 for wheels with pretty fresh tires (still has the little hairs) and $5 for pack of valve stems.

I through them on today because I was impatient. They look great and no rubbing turning full in either direction. I don't feel anything indicating they aren't balanced... Made an appointment to get balanced at Costco for Wednesday anyway for $30 or so.

Will also be looking into finding a place for alignment.

I have no idea. I think a dent repair done poorly... My goal is to be in look out for new doors because other side has it too.

 

Is it possible they had a sticker there, on each door, and maybe that's the adhesive layer?

 

Nah it's just a poor body work repair job. I think it's some sort of patch.

I did want to learn to do some body work maybe this will be an opportunity to take a stab at learning a new skill. In different thread talking about dealing with the rust above the windshield. So perhaps when I learn to paint I can sand this patch down so it's flush and color match with some paint.

I got the truck this time last year for $4k with 286,000 miles. No rust on body or frame or anywhere else other than above the windshield which for some reason I didn't notice at the time.

No leaks anywhere that I could identify. Engine ran great of course until the belt snapped two weeks later because I was to ignorant at the time to check it. It's been sitting in my garage ever since (10 month or so) until last week when I finally got it running after the Aisin timing belt swap. That journey is covered in another thread I sort of hijacked.

So finally being able to enjoy this thing and I didn't even realize what I was getting into when I first bought it. The motivation was we had just bought a house and needed the truck for projects and furniture and things like that. Plus a way to transport my motorcycles if needed. But these Tundra really have a charm to them! So I'm motivated to fix the paint and learn to do some body work to make her pretty a
gain.

 

The '05-'06 rims you've got there are actually 16x7 not 17x7.5

 

My 2006 the day after I brought it home from the dealer as brand new (17" alloy wheels as others have shown as well):

 

Maybe I misread the list of rims and sizes but I was talking about these being 16" rims not 17"

 

My 2000 has the 16 inch Patrick’s which are fine by me. I do like the 2006 like Shifty’s. For a working truck 16 inch with a decent size sidewall gives good ride and reduced likelihood of wheel damage. My daughter had a 40 series tire on her car and we ended. Up replacing 3 wheels and several more tires due to her hitting curbs and drains.
