i would tell you what it costs to add 2 <25yr olds to be drivers of a Tesla model S Plaid....but it would embarrass me.

No kidding... things were different back in the 1970's. If I remember correctly gas was 65 cents per gallon at that time.

You're right! Everyone used Sunoco 260 gasoline at that time. I was fortunate to catch the tail end of the Muscle Car era.

I paid 190.00 every six months on my '70 Chevelle, about the same for my sport bike, and I can't remember how much the truck was, but it was cheap.

Gas when I started driving was .79 cents a gallon or so.

So your Callenger has s companion, we need some better pictures of that Charger. Keep us posted when the Dart arrives too. That's going to be a fun outing when they are all together.

The Charger's story is bittersweet. My dad got it in 2002 actually on the day I graduated high school. It was needing a full resto. Had a non matching 383 and I just remember standing there in awe when it roared to life. Car got moved a couple states away for restoration. I think it was around 04 or 05 we found out that this body shop owner's son got hooked on some stuff and sold all our parts that we had leaving us with almost nothing. Luckily got the car back but none of the parts. I didn't see the car again until about 2015 or 16. We had to start all over again. My dad had gotten a 440 years back and yanked the 383 (which is actually going into my Challenger). Still missing some odds and ends but its really coming along now. Just finishing up some wiring and still need to get the interior done. Would be awesome to get the Challenger and Charger done at the same time. I'll grab some pictures and videos for sure.

Very true. Life gets in the way sometimes...but I had plenty of time to enjoy it. Best part was the community of people I met which still exists long after the car.

That really sucks! I hope you got some money back with the return of the car! My father had a friend with a similar story... it was a 1966 Corvette that was left at a "friend's" body shop for repair and then restoration. Three years later he found out some of the the original parts were taken off the car and sold; he was then being charged for the replacement parts. Real horror story where my father's bud ended up suing the shop.

Great that you and your dad are moving ahead with the restoration of those two icons. Back in the day a Charger or Challenger was the one to have and understandable why Chrysler re-introduced those two models in their lineup. Sad to see them once again retire to be replaced with an EV, but that's a whole different topic! Defintely post some more pics of your progress!

I knew a few guys back in the day (man I'm sounding like an old guy). In the span of 3 years (i.e., 1969, 1970, and 1971) the body/styling of the Chevelle changed. Buddy of mine had a 1969 coupe with a 396 cu. in. engine. Car was a gorgeous maroon paint with a white vinyl top and white interior with black rugs. I still kick myself for not buying it when he sold the car! Should have, would have, but didn't! :frusty:

Would be crazy to see cars together like that back in the day. My HS days consisted mostly of imports. The only time I got to see a rather large meeting of muscle cars was at the Rod Rud in Tennessee. Not sure how it is now-a-days but back then it was muscle car heaven.

I always liked the 1969 the most of the 68 to 72 style.

Mine started as a straight six power glide that I built up to a 396 200r4 by the time I sold it.

It was kind of a very unique time in automotive history... in a lot of ways we are now living the second era of muscle cars with the Hell Cat, Camaro, and Mustangs. In the 1970's we lived a second type of American Graffii but with the next generation Muscle cars. Was a great time to be a kid; however, not that we knew how good we had it at the time!

I've posted this project somewhere on here before. Bastardized '65 fastback I bought from a friend for an obscenely low amount of money (one of those "couldn't pass it up" deals). According to the pic file info, it looks like it'll be 6 years this August since it moved to my house and I haven't even touched it :( . Maybe one day.

The fact that you have the car is a BIG win in my book. Try and find one these days in as great condition and an affordable price. Guy I knew had an exotic car shop in NJ where he restored vintage Aston DB5, Porsches, and Shelby Mustangs. His personal car was a 1967 Mustang fastback coup that was all tricked out. You'll have a great car by the time you're done!

Yeah, I should probably just let it go but I'm not quite there yet.

The car was stolen and recovered many years ago with most of the parts missing. I have the shell, glass, engine, 5 speed, seats, some of the trim and some odds and ends. Zero suspension, brakes, wiring, lights, etc, etc. Not that Mustang parts are hard to find. My first 2 cars growing up were '66 Mustangs and I never thought of taking one on as a project as I really don't have a lot of interest in them anymore. But, here we are.
