If it gets stuck like that then it has to be the sensor in the tank.

Took delivery of my Limited on 1 Oct, parked it on my inclined driveway and the next morning gauge read full. It reset after parking and restarting on level ground. This will be frustrating until they determine the issue and solution.

So I have a platinum with the digital gauges and that reset trick has never worked for me. Anyone else with digital gauges get the reset process to work? I know it’s an annoyance but when it does happen to me, it only happens around the 3/4 full mark and my OCD makes me just top off the tank to reset it

I had this issue all the time when I first got the truck, but haven't noticed it in at least 3 weeks. Nothing has changed either. Hasn't been to the dealer for a software update or anything and I'm still parking on the same incline every night.

After typing this out I'm tempted to delete instead of posting because I know I'm jinxing myself and tomorrow the damn thing will read full again.

    Another method
My experience..may not be exactly what others are experiencing but here ya go.
Fuel Guage sometimes "resets and shows full when tank obviously is not."
Shop foreman at my dealer said they haven't received a fix for it yet. But he showed me how to "force" the computer to read the gas tank level so I could at least read it.
This could just be the reset many of you have said they do. But at least I can see tank level, at that point. Reminder that when the tank gauge reading affects the miles to empty reading. (computer always calculating based on perceived fuel tank level )
Trip is the only real number I watch now and just fill when I get to about 400 miles.
    Method: With truck running
Place odometer in odometer mode (not trip a or b or maint)
    Shut truck off.
Now hold odometer button (don't let go)
Do not put foot on brake and push start button twice(ACC) still pressing odometer
You should see some indication of fuel guage moving (computer is reading sensor in fuel tank) and then it shows "correct fuel level"
    Let go of odometer button.
    Start truck.
Again this just sets it for that moment it could act up anytime and show full or any other level.
Dealer will call me when a real fix is avail.

Thanks. If you hear something about a fix (or I guess if anyone does) please post. Not a big deal but a minor PIA. You would think they would put this one to bed by the time they start the '23s

UPDATE: No further issues like this. Now when I back out of my driveway, the fuel gauge appears to read correctly.

After one year and about 7000 miles my fuel gauge was stuck on Full. I tried the reset method using the ODO button described above, and after doing that a couple of times it fixed the problem, at least for now.

It came back for me! No issues since last summer then two days ago it shot to full from 3/4 and then yesterday it said it was fully empty. I know it is not as I reset the odometer at each fill and should only be at 1/2 tank based on that.

Have a long road trip through remote terrain tomororw and not pleased about this

reminds me of my 1981 cressida. i could tap the temp sensor on dash (left side of the tach) and it would flat line, and tap again and it would go back to center of the guage.

Got a Jan 2023 build. I park on an incline driveway. Have just over 600km on the truck and on second tank of gas. This issue just popped up for me today. As of last night I had just over 3/4 of a tank and this afternoon I magically have a full tank. Went to a flat area and turned off truck. Then drove around a bit and still hasn’t corrected. Still shows I have a full tank and DTE hasn’t moved.

This is my first issue with the truck.

I had the issue last week, It randomly when to a full tank and after 2 drives it didn't go back to the correct level. I did the above trick with holding the ODO button while turning the ignition on and it magically snapped back to 1/2 tank level, it also reset my fuel economy back to 0. (I have it set to display tank avg). This is the fully digital cluster.

I just had this issue pop up this morning. I filled up Monday and distance to empty showed about 720km - which is normal for me. After driving about 100km over the past couple of days I turned the truck back on after dropping my daughter off at school this morning and the needle went back to full and said 720km to empty. I have about 35,000km on the truck and haven't had this pop yet.

It may be a coincidence but I had to reset my radio twice this morning as the apple carplay wouldn't connect.

I’m having same issue. Had the truck 2 months and it’s happened 3 times. Yesterday I was 3/4 full and then I got off and ran errands- when I turned on truck it read full tank

I've had the issue with the fuel level returning to full several times now, when it happens I usually just go fill up the tank. However, the other day I experienced the reverse of this. I had about 15 miles till empty according to the meter, and filled up 26 gallons of gas, and it refused to reset at all. It still read empty with 15 miles to go. Turning off and on the engine made no difference, same with driving it a mile or so. I ended up doing the "fix" of leaving it in drive and shutting off the engine, waiting about 10-15 seconds with the foot on the brake, and watched the needle slowly move back up to full. When it hit full, I released the brake and shut off the truck completely, and the tank read full again when restarting it. How is it that Toyota can't figure out how to implement a simple fuel level gauge. The software must be so over-engineered. I mean all you need is a float and something to read the position between empty and full. It doesn't have to be that complicated here. I just want to know how much gas is left in the tank. It should be 100% reliable and it's not.

    Agreed. Totally.

However, I believe a gentleman on here mentioned that there's multiple ways this problem can rear its head. Its probably a matter of fix one thing, break two other things. Over-engineered? possibly. I'm just hoping its a software flash and not something they have to replace somewhere complicated.

So, I have an appt tomorrow with Toyota- they said they will have to remove fuel pump and lower gas tanks to “diagnose” this

Ouch. Perhaps suggest they open a "TAS" case with toyota first, perhaps save yourself and the dealer a lot of time.

    Agreed 100%

Since you're not the only one having this issue, I'd bet they'll rip it apart to find nothing. I would think its a software issue since the fuel gauge can be corrected once its wrong (somewhere on this forum), and have it go wrong again, and fix it again....

The issue is that (they way it goes with my truck) is when I get to 3/4 or thereabouts after a fill-up the gauge will read full (I'm sure you've seen). What I do to fix it (and there's another way too) is I'll drive the truck, then when I get where I'm going I stop, leave the truck in drive, and shut the engine off. The truck will of course complain. I wait about 10 seconds, then put it in park. When I start it, the gauge is then correct. It stays correct for me too until I fill again and get to about 3/4 again.

So it would seem to be a software issue, and I'm fairly certain the equipment in your gas tank are fine.

Yea, that part I’m familiar with. Mine does it at same exact point. I used that procedure and also using the odo button worl around . I get better results with the odo button
    Resets.

I meant what was a TAS

Technical Assistance. Basically talk to the techs who have designed the system and know the in's and out's of how it operates. So before taking your truck apart (potentially unnecessarily) they could get more info about others in your situation and be able to diagnose it without just taking the vehicle apart

TAS is the Toyota Tech Support, basically when your local dealer gets stumped the ask these people for help.

After about 2.5 months of ownership, I can confirm this happens to me with pretty much every tank of gas. After the first time I thought it might be an occasional thing. I am now expecting it every time my gauge drops to 3/4 (always at 3/4...).

I do the hold ODO method to reset - hold ODO and go into accessory mode (double click start button without foot on brake), keep holding ODO until gauge resets, then push brake and start truck.

I would love to know what exactly this method does within the software. Is it just a "shoutout" to the fuel gauge sensor or EVERY sensor in the truck? I would switch to the "leave in drive" method if I find out that this ODO method is actually resetting a bunch of parameters within my computer... Anyone know?

Still love the truck and wouldn't change it for anything. This is literally the only issue I have.

Just had this happen to my 2023. Thanks for sharing the procedure so I don't have to drop my truck off for half a day just to hear excuses from the dealer.
