That Banks guy is such a negative nanny.
With all his facts and understand and his fancy, patented products that work, based on testing and results.
    What a jerk.

I actually really like Mr Banks and have used many of his products over the years, but if you don’t think he uses his own dyno results and his own tests results/info to show his products in the most positive outlook then I have some really nice land to sell ya, btw I live in Louisiana and disregard the little swampy water you may see on the inspection.

ok did you even watch the video, for real? First off Mr. Banks is not talking about all open air kits. He is referring to a specific one and it is for a power stroke Diesel! Totally different animal and Mr. Banks is a diesel guy. He also states in the video “this open air kit PROBABLY makes less horsepower”, so did he run a dyno himself to compare his vs this other one, no he did not. You have a man comparing a product to his own, do you think it will be positive for this other product?
Last thing I will say is that what he did and how he sounded/acted actually made me less like the man. He was making fun of just about everything his competitor was saying and doing it in an unprofessional manner I would call it. You may like that type of attitude/behavior and maybe the younger me version would too, but now I just prefer people TRY to get along better. I have seen and done a lot of stuff in my life and took a long time for me to understand you can live a much happier life when you are not such an a#%hole all the time. Again, you do you and like what you like, I will do the same……
(P.s. and yes in that video Mr. Banks is 1000% a negative nanny and I would have no issue telling him that if he reached out to me!!!!! IMO he didn’t have to say all the negative personal stuff like he did. Just be more professional and discuss the products themselves)(I am really disappointed in Mr. Banks didn’t realize he acted that way)

No doubt. He clearly knows his shit, but he's also in business to make money, not save the world. So there's definitely a little showmanship and bullshittery going on.
I don't have a dog in the intake fight. I just like to bust balls because some folks get too worked up about their opinion on the whole thing.
BTW, I'm at 600' ASL and still managed to find swamp land up here. A lot of it. But I got a good deal. Just had to build an island to put the house on. Otherwise I might take you up. I ain't scared.

Sorry seen this post after my last one. I got carried away vs Mr Banks not you. You don’t have the responsibility that he does to the performance community and I was not impressed with how he acted in that video. Obviously he can say what he wants and that’s his choice, but I also have a choice with my pocket book and probably won’t buy anymore of his products as I didn’t realize he turned into one of the negative Nannie’s and someone who mocked and made fun of his competitors. About the land, the very first piece of land I purchased back in the day for a hunting camp was more swamp than land but we made the most of it. Miss that ole place.

I thought so too. My first thought was that the guy he was bashing must've said/did something to piss him off and it was a retaliation. But maybe not. Maybe he was just bashing someone elses product so they wouldn't move in on his market.
I think most of these products are worthless and most of the people that argue about them on forums give me the impression that they don't really know what they're talking about and shouldn't be arguing or getting pissy with anyone. So I bust balls.
Keep it light. Don't take yourself so serious, kinda thing.

No no, I'm referring to some other comments made further back in the thread.
I should've quoted them, but then I gotta do the whole internet argument thing because I singled someone out in front of all their friends. Wasn't anything you said.

Hopefully Banks will end up making a CAI. He doesn’t have squat for 3rd gen Tundras right now.

Not saying the guy is a saint, but I think Gale Banks genuinely does just take his product development seriously. I think he views products like open air intakes as a disservice to the customer, and when people push to sell those products under false pretenses he takes it seriously and actually does get upset.

As a professional in my field, I see bad information and installations from less qualified contractors/individuals provided to customers and can’t help but get upset to a minor degree myself. It gives everyone in the field a bad name, hence the frustration and wanting to distance your way of doing things from what you know is incorrect from others.

At the start of the video I was under the impression that he had a healthy respect for the guy from S&B and was disappointed to see him sway from his original stance of “sealed intakes are best” to “customers will pay me lots of money for this poorly designed alternative of an intake.”

I got the distinct impression that Mr. Banks was being coached a little.
The whole you tube, talking smack thing didn't seem natural or something he's been doing for a long time. I feel like someone said, "gotta get with the times and make these vids" kinda thing.

You are right. I just keep getting carried away talking about it. Yes it has a heat shield that goes to the hood and seals off the cone filter that basically uses the factory “ram air” from the grill area. Regardless, there are just so many anti k&n peeps on here it’s crazy. How can soooooo many car enthusiasts be wrong? I have said it soooo many times, check your local speed/performance shops and local drag strips. Almost every single non stock car/truck/suv uses aftermarket intake kits that look like open air intakes. Heck, whether you have a Hellcat, Gt500, zr1, c06, should I continue (?), what’s the very first step most people do? New intake & exhaust period. That’s pretty much a guarantee. My 69 Bronco and 89 Mustang (pics attached) use a real open air kit, no heat shield which is different than the k&n kit for the Tundra, and I still don’t have an issue with these either. However, there is a huge difference between these and thanks for bringing that point up!!!

If anyone has a stock oem intake setup and another person with this setup similar to the K&N I’d love to see some IAT temp logs. I’m sure OBD fusion is available for the fancy third gens?

Those heat shields have a lot of gaps that do not tightly seal off the hot engine bay. It’s better than nothing I suppose, but not ideal. The lower pressure around the air filter will draw in warm air through those gaps, as well as cool air from the front.

Heat shields and metal intake tubes are like putting tin foil over cookies in the oven to try and stop them from baking.

Wrap the box and intake tube with heat resistant tape. Not pretty, but does afford some protection from engine bay heat and seals any intake gaps.

Then again, it's a Truck and I don't track or race it. Standard well designed CAI offers all that I'm looking for with this ride. My other ride is wrapped as IAT 2 Temps significantly affect performance as they increase due to WOT runs or track driving.

Ok, I pulled the trigger on the K&N CAIs.

Comparing the graphs to afe, the K&N has HP gains over the total RPM range vs aFe’s HP gains are just at the high RPM range.

I also plan to use dynamat on the heat shields for a thicker barrier, as well as buy some rubber foam strip to close the gaps between the engine and “cold air”.

Just a comment. Yes, I installed the AFE CAI's just to play around. That said, look at the torque and HP curves and RPM's. Using the lower RPM of 2800, that puts you most likely over the governed top speed. My Pro is turning under 2000 RPM at 75 MPH. So realistically, the only true gain is hard acceleration (WOT).

If I want rocket acceleration and high speed, then I take out the Roush. That has all that I ever need in the speed and handling department :)

Did you disconnect the negative battery cable and did you run into any problems that K&N is stating in their instructions?

Just minor stuff. For example, Undercover bed cover, Tufskinz custom door sill protectors, and TRD air filters.
Don’t know about their graph, but all I did was put in TRD performance filters, which I believe are made by K&N. Would like to see a comparison with TRD filters.

I did this and noticed a fair amount of sound increase. After a fatback exhaust it’s noticeably more peppy.
