We had an 85 f250 460 5spd with a granny 1st. Aim it down the field, jump out, walk along side it throwing bails of hay in...occasionally reach through the window to correct it, then hop in at the end of the row, line up with the next row, wash rinse repeat.

EDIT: My kid learned stick in our 97 Wrangler

Thinking back...I dont think my mom has ever bought or owned an automatic.

Edit: She's 74 and both her cars are 6spd manuals

Hay, I could handle but I hated alfalfa. Bails weighed more than me as a kid.

We picked em off the field cause it was cheaper than delivery. Average bail was 50ish, but yeah, the alfalfa bails could go as high as 70lbs.

Same here. We had a small horse ranch growing up so hauling hay was a tradition. I had to make new friends every year to con into helping because only the dumb ones ( JK they were good friends) would return the next year.

I worked the Kenworth manufacturing line one summer. On my final day they sent me out with a driver doing a ride check on a new rig. I’d never even heard about double clutching before or even shifting with just a switch on the stick. I was tripping having only ever used a janky five speed in my GM.

When the driver finished telling me how the shifting sequence worked, he returned to his story about some bar trash he ate out the night before. Still gives me shivers to this day.

Low on work today so I volunteered to clean a machine from a different department. What a terrible idea.

I’ve learned that lesson a few times. I dislike not having work. It just doesn’t feel right if the company is paying me. More than once I’ve volunteered for a few projects during slow times and regretted it.

This manual vs. automatic thing is quite entertaining. Inquiring minds want to know: could you drive a manual whilst eating a grilled cheese with tomatoes?

Got mine in a diesel 1990 Toyota Hilux 4Runner that my dad imported from Japan. It was a 5spd manual and right hand drive. My first truck was a 1994 Toyota pickup, 22RE 4cyl, 5spd manual. Love a manual transmission.

Did my class 3 license in a manual rig, with the road test in the middle of a blizzard. My brother did his in an automatic in the middle of summer. I like to remind him that this makes me a better driver by default. :D

Tomato decreases the coefficient of friction and therefore would not risk it. Just cheese and bread, like a real grilled cheese, would be a go!
