LOL! I think that’s what was most people’s complaints; it doesn’t have that V8 rumble. Well yeah, its a V6! Also people say it sounds like a V6 camry. To my knowledge, I don’t think there’s a way around that V6 sound. :notsure:

I have learned on this site you just have to ignore the haters! There are many of those and the negative Nannie’s I call em. I know some are only joking but there are a lot that are not. I think it sounds great. The ONLY person it should matter to is YOU! I also love all the ones that say “sounds like a v6 to me”…..hey genius IT IS A V6!! Omfg this truck is not ever going to sound like a v8. I like it bro.

Thanks, I think a lot of people get “internet tough” when talking online. They’d never say that stuff to someone in person, so I take it with a grain of salt. People are just showing their character and who they are as a person.

I think it sounds good and the muffler guy said the sound would deepen over time.

Sounds nice!!!! Every engine has its own character, and the way it sounds is part of that character. My Grand National wasn't ever going to sound like a big block, but it would sure pull like one. Ran an aftermarket exhaust on that thing, and it produced a very nice exhaust note; at the track I'd run a 'test pipe' on it, and it would certainly come alive. For me, I enjoyed hearing the turbo spool up and would never want that overshadowed by an unnatural exhaust sound; it's about balance.

I think the system you installed definitely gives you great balance. A good deep exhaust sound that says, 'I'm here'... but, it also allows the sound of the twin turbos to be heard as they spool up. Seems like a win to me!!!

I have owned many vehicles in my lifetime and the ONE vehicle that has always eluded me (could of bought one before Just hard to find a nice clean basically stock one that hasn’t already been set up for racing) a Buick Grand National!! The big daddy v6 turbo of all time. Man I had a buddy that had one set up for racing and OMG it was so damn fast and a v6!!! I have been in 8 & 9 second q/m vehicles but nothing sunk you in your seat like that GNX did!! You still own it? If so, I’m jealous!!

Thanks! At the very minimum there will be a thread about this cat-back for 3rd Gen owners to help them make a decision.

It was hard to find any videos or reviews about the flowmaster cat-back online other than flowmasters video. I watched dirty deeds video of the exhaust and wasn’t that impressed, but it could’ve just been the audio.

The muffler guy said that this makes my Tundra have true dual exhaust, and it does have an X-pipe for scavenging.

    Any plans to dyno it?

i would want make sure you don’t lose low end which can happen with a cat-back. I haven’t seen much dyno info on these trucks yet for that so it would be interesting to see

anyways , enjoy your rig and go let r rip

I pick up my platinum 2023 tomorrow, first truck I will have had in a long time with no aftermarket exhaust , but I’m going for the silent ride this time around

No, unfortunately... My dumb ass sold it when I left CA and moved to NM for a brief period. There was no one in the NW portion of NM that knew how to work on them (I was having tuning issues w/the higher elevation that I couldn't resolve), and I didn't want it to sit so I sold it to some dude in TX.

Yeah most of them are run pretty hard. The ones with the t-tops generally have/had a lot of issues too. The twisting during a decent launch would cause the b-pillar to flex pretty hard and creates leaks, paint cracks, etc... The guy I bought mine from had some 'mild' work done to, and I was running low 10s at sea level on cheater slicks. He had basically done some upgrades to the turbo and intercooler, and I was getting 19-20psi of boost on premium pump gas (I think a stock setup would get 13-14psi on premium fuel). Torque converter was also upgraded for a higher stall along with some other minor transmission tweaks.

Some day, I'd love to find another one. But, I think pricing on them now may require me to just leave it on my wish list.

No plans to dyno it, I don’t care, its fast enough. Just wanted to add something that made it sound better. The HP gains from exhaust are minimal and typically at high RPMs. Correct me if I’m wrong though, I’m not the expert.

Not trying to hijack my own thread, but I heard that turbos won’t lose low end torgue, only NA engines?

Also, maybe someone can post a video of their own DD exhaust sound as a comparison. Seems like its the only exhaust that gets love in this forum.

Glad to see I'm not the only one pulling the trigger on Magna Flow as well, I got the street series cat back black tipped dulies single side dump,it won't sound like my Chevy and that's ok.
I was itchy with do I or don't I...It's a 6 banger, but it's a truck and it has more balls out of of the box vrs previous generations and this is how things are rolling now a days so why not make the best of it,It's mine no one here is paying for it or any of my bills for that matter.
Some people love big chicks some don't but it's there choice not mine...

So ok,what do big chicks and mopeds have in common? There both fun to ride but you don't want to be seen on one!
    To each his own Boyz.
Jarrow enjoy it Brother sounds great

I’ll try and get some more videos. Mind you its just a recording from an iPhone so the mic isn’t that great.

I finally took it for a drive. It has the same issues as most cat-backs with being very loud at 2k RPMs. It sounds great when you floor it and when cruising at 1,500 RPMs.

I think the main issue is going to be that its still a V6 engine and have that V6 sound.

I know people said they love DirtyDeeds and says it has a V8 sound, but I haven’t ran across any videos other than their own video of what it sounds like. There’ll probably be more 3rd gen cat-back vids as time goes by.

To the people that aren’t a fan of the Flowmaster cat-back; post a vid of the sound from the cat-back you do like for your 3rd Gen Tundra. Maybe we can make a 3rd Gen only thread of cat-back sounds.

I felt like I searched them all and this one seemed to sound the best. Carven was too loud, even TRDJON on YouTube liked his Carven exhaust at first, but posted a vid months later saying it was too loud, especially the drone at 2k RPM. The others either didn’t have videos or the sound wasn’t what I was looking for. Its hard to get good audio of exhaust through mics.

Anyways, thanks for everyone’s input so far.

GNX's are serious money. While fast rides, dont forget the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. Basically the same motor but in an F-Body. So while the gnx could go straight the bird could corner too.
(one of my fun cars is a low mileage f-body third gen IROC, its a go cart and easy to work on) Sorry ladies no mullet. Just a coolaid smile when she launches and chirps gears.
