I moved to Lakeland Highlands recently and somewhere along the way my truck got punched in the face. No one is talking as to how it happened. Instead of looking at this as a setback, I was thinking of all the miles it has on it and the timming chain needs replacing. So, with that said. I've decied to have the motor rebuilt since the front end is jacked. The question I have is who here has bought an engine rebuild kit for your Tundra and who did or who would you buy it from. Secondly, if you didn't do it yourself who would you recommend doing the work?
As for the damage.....All the parts needed to fix it are $1500. I have some experince in this so if you have any suggestions or can lend a hand let me know. This truck is going to be customized over the nex year.

    1. How many miles are on the motor? 2. How familiar are you with the rebuilding process, especially on a Toyota V8?

If i remember it has about 270000 miles. I have no experience rebuilding the engine but I do have experience with the wrecked parts.

Wholly smokes bro, that's pretty significant impact. You doing a whole new core support? A spot weld drill kit and mig welder, with a new core support and your okay there.

As for the engine, it's hard to beat oem parts which you won't know about until it's clean and measured.

Often times a used engine is 10X cheaper than a local rebuild. Have you priced a long block rebuild from yoda?

Yes replacing the entire radiator support assembly all the way down to the bumper impact support. I have all the tools. The engine work is not my wheelhouse. Used engine is a thought. Just not sure how I want to attack the issue. I would still want to rebuild a used motor too. Just want fresh so as I start customizing I know the motor is good to go. Thought about adding a turbo but these are things I need to ask an engine builder if they are possible with what I have. Thanks for the info....I will take it under consideration.
Does anyone have diamond cut aluminum floors? Or some kind of hard floor in their Tundra? I'd like to know what you did to have it installed.

We replace engines every week at my shop… that’s just too many miles for a rebuild in my opinion. After the rebuild you’ll be wishing you had just gone remanufactured… I wouldn’t recommend it man. If you have an itch to rebuild something, buy an old Camry 4 cylinder that doesn’t run for a few hundred bucks and give it a shot… that’s a LOT of miles in that motor.

Is it doing something you don’t like? If it ain’t messed up I’d sure let it ride. Throw in a core support and go!

Rear main seal leak, timing chain chatter and I think the head gasket needs changing. Hmmm so a remanufactured motor is the way to go. Ok what about a used motor at what milage would a rebuild be recommended? I'm hung up on a fresh motor because I really have less to be concerned about after its even rebuilt. At least that's that hope.

I would have a block test done on your engine before assuming the head gasket is going. That won’t tell you everything but it’ll move in the right direction. I say, if it runs, let run.

The C-max has been taken apart and now I'd like your opinions on what you would replace while you're in here? Also would you exchange the orginal fan for an electric fan?

I have not seen an electric fan kit for a Tundra that I would trust.

As far as a rebuild/engine swap goes, it looked like the time to do that was before the front end was spot-welded back on. Or just to pull the front cover and replace the timing chain tensioners if that's what's bothering you with the motor.

ETA: even with some neglect these motors will make it so frighteningly high mileages. Unless they're run out of oil or run low on coolant, they don't really die. Check compression, fix whatever is needed (head gasket isn't "horrible" to do), and drive on happy.

The front end is not on. Its just clamped into place. I'm also going to make it so I can remove the front end fairly easy so fixing or replacing things will be easier.
