Anyone have any info as highway mpgs?
I’m looking for 02-05 gx or possibly 4wd sequoia of the same vintage.
I realize it won’t be great mpgs but I’ve been able to squeeze 17mpg highway outta my 4wd Tundra by keeping it at or below 2000 rpm’s and I can live with that for the 3-4 months a year of hunting season when I put a ton of highway miles on my truck going to and from different properties.
Just wandering if this a realistic expectation before I go through with it.
I really need or probably more prefer a SUV but would really like to stick with the 4.7 platform.

Fuelly is your best bet for seeing real-world MPG. I'm assuming the GX potentially comes in RWD and AWD variants and the AWD likely takes a 5%-15% hit on MPG just like our 1GT do.

1st gen sequoia 15mpg around town, 13 or less on the highway at 80.
    LX470 13 around town, 10-12 at 80.

VVTi and 5 speed transmission get slightly better MPG.

    I definitely won’t be doing 80
2000 rpm in my Tundra is around 65mph
and that’s with the 4 speed.

Another 4.7 option is the 03-09 4Runner. I was able to comfortably get 20mpgs before lifting it. Smaller interior though.

    I hadn’t really considered one
But those are a little harder to find, I may keep them on the radar as well.
    Thanks

My wife had an 07 sequoia limited, 2.5 inch lift, 275/70/17 falken wild peaks, kmc wheels. That truck got 14.5 mpg (hand calculated) no matter how you drove it, highway or city. Dang was it comfortable though.

06-09 is the sweet spot in the gx, best engine setup. Fuel efficiency shouldn’t be a concern within any of these platforms, none are stellar.

The GX is more available in my area than the sequoia.
For sure none are great on gas just hoping I can get the 17mpg highway I’ve been able to squeeze outta my Tundra.

All GX470 are V8 and fulltime 4wd with a torsen diff transfer case with an electric center diff lock. It's a bitchin drivetrain. I've had two of them and I miss them every time i have to drive my Tundra in the snow (which was a helluva lot this year in Utah). With a good condition suspension, the GX is a damn smooth driver. Not to say the Tundra can't be a smooth driver (mine rides pretty damn smooth even up to 100mph :p ), but if you're daily-drivering and you don't require a truck, the GX beats the pants off the Tundra as a driver.

As for fuel mileage, I don't really pay close attention, but I know the GX wasn't much different than I get in the Tundra. But I also haul ass on the highway at 80-85mph all the time and run 285s (had the same on the GX). I get around 250 miles on a tank. I think if you ran stock tire size and ~65mph, I could see getting ~16-17 mpg or so.

Also, bonus with GX vs 1G Sequoia or Tundra is no LBJ issues.

Yea I want one bad but also love my Tundra. I can’t talk my wife into selling her Ridgeline (she loves that thing) and getting a GX that would be the ideal situation.
    I’m still on the fence.
If I could find a camper shell / topper for my tundra I may just go that route but they are hard to find.

    Well
I’ve decided to hold off on the GX for now as I’m gonna need a new commuter car sooner since I drive it to and from work everyday and the tundra is only used to tow the boat on weekends and during hunting season.
Anyway I just did tie rods and steering rack bushings on the tundra brakes are next.
Fingers crossed the wife will be willing to swap her Ridgeline for a GX one day.
