Anyone using the Kenwood DNR1007XR Excelon Reference?

Is the weather still working for you? Just installed this head unit and downloaded the app and got the notification “Notice to all users: as of January 1st, 2023 Kenwood Traffic Powered by INRIX will no longer provide weather and live fuel price
data.“

 

Does this app still work for you?

 

Unfortunately, it does not. They took the servers offline and have no plans to restore the service.

Need some help.
I got a new stereo and it is definitely not a plug and play. Is there a tutorial on how to install this bad boy. I have a 2015 sequoia platinum and took out my tesla style stereo (horrible). This is what I purchased and think I may need a harness, but I haven't had to install a stereo in like 20 years.

A couple of things will drive you crazy.
1. There are more plugs on the t harness you need than you will use. But, look on the idata link website and download the info for your harness and you should get where you need to be.
2. You should have gotten about 4-5 different pieces/harnesses. You need the to2 and the ken1, antenna harness. I guess it depends on which radio you had stock. Hopefully you didn’t buy this stuff on Amazon. Where did you buy this?
3. This is the biggest pain. Make sure you install the black piece with two screws behind the display otherwise the radio will not work or turn on. There is a yellow piece of paper in the box telling you this. And you have to get the screws tightened down or it will not work.

I did buy the stuff on Amazon. But just sent it all back except for the stereo. I went on Crutchfield and ordered everything it said to. Shows an eta of 4/26. So once it comes in I will dig into it and send some updates or an SOS . Appreciate the feedback my dude, thank you.

 

I wasn't suggesting the stuff on Amazon is bad just you don't always get what you need especially if you don't know what you need. LOL.
I had to call Idatalink several times to get a few questions answered and especially the last one about the antitheft plate. Drove me crazy until I screwed the last screw in just right and the radio came on.
In my vehicle 2019 tundra limited with JBL had a harness I couldn't figure out as there was an A harness and a B harness. They both plugged in but the connector was different and when the guy at Idatalink mentioned it I remembered having those and batta bing batta boom we were working.
Also, you can raise and lower the screen height with the screws on the side of the back of the screen. These radios are awesome.

 

Hey guys. Have been skimming the forum and this Post. I have a 2018 Tundra platinum. I came from a ram 2500 with apple car play and my wifes SUV have apple car play so I really want that function back. I am looking at both the Kenwood and the Pioneer units. What is the best unit for wireless carplay and is Crutchfield the best place to order? I think I have around 100 or so dollars in rewards on my crutch field.

Purchased the Kenwood 1037s and am gonna start installing it. Do you have a tutorial on how to keep the OEM mic?

 

If anyone has a 1007 and needs to update maps I figured it out...starting to get old map notices and was motivated to solve it.

 

You will have to use the supplied mic. I ran mine through the pillar and up to the OEM location.

 

Also make sure it is plugged into the right place on the back otherwise you have to pull the unit and try again...it comes out pretty easy too

 

Found a solution to an annoying issue with this head unit.
I like to talk on the phone and not crazy about the hands free with the mic. I will use it but sometimes I use the phone.

anyway from time to time it will not jump back to music through the sound system. Or I will start the truck and it doesn’t connect through CarPlay.

if it doesn’t connect or disconnect there is a simple way to quickly get it going again without restarting everything.

press the gear icon

hit devices

hit the one that’s active and then hit yes to disconnect

then touch the button that’s your phone and it will instantly reconnect.

I have done it so many times I don’t really look at the screen anymore.

this also works if someone is in the vehicle and it jumps to their phone.

a few quick clicks and your back in business. I got so frustrated early on and thought you had to restart the system but then figured these couple of touches. Hope this helps someone.

 

I have the same head unit and my question is.hows the resolution on the oem back up camera?I'm having a issue that my back up camera image on the radio it's burry/connection.i already pulled the radio out and rechecked all the wiring behind the radio and can't figure it out.

No issues with mine. I will say it isn’t the clearest camera I have seen but it’s not aweful. It may be the camera going bad or the screen is broke or the seal on the screen has allowed condensation in. I eventually want to upgrade the camera and put one on the front as well.

How did you get mirroring to work? That is why I got a 1057, but I have not figured out how to make it work.

ok, now that I hav read the entire post, sounds like my issue is that I bought a 4K hdmi cable. I’ll start there and continue to trouble shoot.

 

Just ordered this unit from Crutchfield with all the installation accessories. Hoping it’s relatively seamless. Arrives tomorrow and hope to install in the next few weeks over Christmas. First time posting here, and I’ve got a few questions I’m hoping someone can answer after skimming through this thread

1. I’d like to use factory mic(s) but my understanding is that there isn’t a super easy way to do so. Someone did some soldering to make theirs work which I’d be willing to give a go and post my results here. Anyone have a guide on that?
2. I think I’ve got a link to the right HDMI cable to use for connecting media to the unit, but I’m curious about the little round piece that has the HDMI and USB connectors and fits in the cigarette lighter spot. I don't know where to find it or how to install it. Any tips?
3. Maybe unrelated to the unit but I feel like the factory USB/Aux connector really sucks at charging when running GPS and music through your phone. Is there a way to get more juice through that thing?
4. The GPS receiver: should I just use the one that comes with the unit or try to use the truck GPS unit? Is it even possible (I’m thinking it’s not possible).
5. Thinking out loud: this unit has 4 camera inputs. Is there a way to get 4 cameras for a surrounding view of the truck like an Infiniti? Would be kind of cool.

Btw, my truck has factory nav and JBL speakers.

Could you walk through how you wired the factory mic to the head unit?

 

Any map app (Apple Maps, Waze, Google Maps, etc.) that I use while connected to wireless Carplay rarely shows my accurate location. It usually has me a few blocks away from my actual location and throws the apps off. Anyone else experiencing this?

 

Is your iOS up to date? (IT guy, had to ask).

When the phone isn't connected to my truck, all the map apps work totally fine. It only goes haywire when I connect to the truck. Starting to wonder if it has to do with one of the antennas.
