I swear I'm gonna own stock in this tow company one day.

 

Yeah, maybe go buy some stock now. Then spend your winnings on these real life "investments".

 

IDK; I probably wouldn't want to own it for use myself. I'd be more inclined to sell it or trade it in for a car that's reliable, safe and easy to work upon similar to what you're looking to get but at a higher price. The selling or trade in would help cushion that blow.

 

I'm with you on this. All the talk of Chevelles.....can a Nova get some love? A certain '66 SS scared me into lovin it when I was young. Late 60's is when the greatest muscle cars were built, and alot of makers making decent looking cars, like across the board. 70's came around and everything started goin to shit. the 'boat' era. Too big, too heavy. Of course there are exceptions. That's just me two pennies.

I've got a friend with one, not sure what the SEL is, but his is the wagon, turbo 6 cylinder. I've helped him out swapping brake pads and an oil change, but in the several years he's had it, that's all it's needed. I've driven it, and the thing scoots. Feels like you're sitting on the ground tho. I know they have a decent safety rating, but I think about it like this, almost everyone crashes their first car. Chances are much higher anyways. The percentage of trucks and large SUV's on the road, don't give a small car like that much of a fighting chance should they meet in the wrong way. Something to consider anyways.

Yeah, it's some of the specialty tools and/or bullshit process that bugged me.

Will it be safe? Totally.
Will it be reliable? Maybe.
Will it be easier to repair? If not routine maintenance, I doubt it.
Will it be cheap to repair? Rarely.

If you can't get a good deal on it, I wouldn't do it. I'm about 3 years behind you on car hunting for ours. I would not buy my kids a VW/Audi product as their 1st car.

I'd really need to put you in the seat of both in a parking lot and let you drive them for it to be clear. I can't say it's the same with the Turbo 4cyl GTI manual, I've never driven one, but the GTI VR6 in manual, that engine if a f'n torque monster pocket-rocket, lightweight with huge balls, and I really found nothing special at all about the RSX-S. It had pep, but you had to get it above 6k RPM to feel any decent response or pull. It was reliable, more fun to drive at high speeds, but nothing like the fun of slapping through gears on a similarly sized car with a bigger engine, and a short-throw shifter to make up for the lack of tighter ratio found on the RSX.

 

Oh, I love me some 2dr Novas too.

 

I wanted a Chevy II. Everyone else seems to now as well. Rarer than hen's teeth and never affordable even for complete trash wagons that need total resto.

I wasn't disagreeing with you. I have no experience with the GTI. I'm just saying I could be happy with a Type S. I enjoyed the styling and handling of mine. The seats were uncomfortable though.

 

IDK, I'm sort of a fan of a big caddy or boat size car convertible but that's only because I'm used to driving a 72 delta 88 convertible coupe I owned for a couple years. Nobody would park near the partially gold/primer/rust covered vehicle for fear of being dinged by it's tank like 6 foot door.

What little they had in HP made up for it in torque and punching it on the highway to easily pass others going from 60 mph to 90 mph.

 

Totally, they were too firm, to the point of being stiff. The stock handling on the RSX is definitely better, but I fixed that dropping a Koni sport kit in the GTI. The GTI's seats on the other hand, were like your favorite recliner, but with race bolsters. It's the one thing I find Germans always seem to get right: The seats in their sportier vehicles are like a firm, warm hug. Like the car is holding you in your seat, but with a little feeling of cloud.

I'd highly encourage you to try driving a manual GTI if you happen to bump into anyone owning one. It's definitely a driving experience. I'm almost tempted to own another MKIV VW, because I have fond memories of that car, although the scene (VW Vortex at least, which I think is owned by same entity as TS, same software) was pretty lame. Lots of d-bags hung up on tire stretch, negative caster, and snobby wheels.

 

Earlier we had two picture frames fall off the wall and break. My wife jokingly asked if there had been an earthquake. Apparently there was! Small enough I didn't feel it.

Thank you, Fellas! All of you wrote pretty much what I'd been thinking and also telling my aunt and cousin. I got tempted because it's in near pristine condition, inside and out, so I know my boy would be pleased not to drive in a junker (like we know I don't mind doing).

@RUSTY&WISE he doesn't want a truck or SUV, but he's tall and will be hauling around basketball teammates once his license allows it, so I'm trying to find a 4 door sedan.

 

But I read an article saying the 1G Sequoia had the best power to weight ratio in its class. I can only imagine the same went for the 1GT

So my buddy had a Passat with a manual trans and the reverse was normal, as in where 6th gear would go. But another buddy had a Golf GTI with a manual trans and to get it in reverse you had to push the shifter down toward the floor, then put it where's 1st is. Then another buddy had a Jetta with a manual trans and it was different from the other two. You had to push it in and shift into 5th.
I never understood why VW couldn't just stick to one shift pattern

 

Those imported kei vehicles have been gaining popularity and fetch a pretty penny sometimes

 

It more noticeable the higher in a structure you go. I felt a small quake from my 5th floor hotel in San Diego once. Felt like a slow swaying when I woke up to it. Later found San Diego got something in the low 5s on the sphincter scale.

Here I was thinking San Diego was so far from the fault line they wouldn't feel a thing. Guess I was wrong.

Plus the exhaust note on a VR6 is just awesome

So Rhonda the Honda lives to fight another day. It wasn't too bad of a job, but damn working on cars vs trucks sucks. My back is sore. It only took about 3 hours including 2 trips to Amarillo, 1 because I forgot my wallet.

If he's tall, going to be hauling around basketball teammates, you want an elusive cheap Toyota - Think minivan.
Decentish gas mileage, good headroom, often cheap. Mechanic gives soccer mom a big estimate & she dumps it for an easy payment from the dealer.

Some deferred maintenance catchup/training for the boy & Bob's you uncle.

Just try to avoid the stow & go style seats. Aint no reason to be a young grandma.
