Hey everyone, new to the forum and new to a 2022 TRD Off-Road Limited Tundra.

I have the 400W in bed power option and I plugged in a Goal Zero (1500X) and then a Dometic Cooler. I want the 400W outlet to charge the Goal Zero WHILE I am driving around and then when I'm parked I want it to use the Goal Zero to run the cooler.

    Seems logical and easy.

Problem 1: The outlet won't stay on when I start driving. It turns on when I put I turn it on in park but the moment I shift to drive it turns off. Anyone know what gives??? Owner's manual says it should work w/ 100W outlet when driving. The power adapter is 120W from Goal Zero. Is this tripping a breaker or something?

    ■ Maximum available capacity of the power outlet

While the vehicle is being driven

The maximum capacity of the power outlet is always 120 V AC/100 W.

Problem 2: Apparently the outlet can run 100W and 400W? I don't know if that's true but I can't figure out how to tell if I'm running in 100W mode or 400W mode. Any suggestions or guidance are appreciated.

    Thank you

My 100% hypothetical guess is that it’s tripping up and pulling too much voltage and shutting off- might need to run a second battery or an Anderson style plug in charger for it

Your GZ is rated 120W but the outlet is only 100W MAX while driving. Probably a safety feature.

I wonder if it’s the same 100W / 400W inverter the Tacomas have been using for years? Guys on Tacomaworld figured out a way mod them to run 400W driving…

just to confirm this, this 400watt/100watt, is this dc or ac? because 100watt ac is like 0.83amp at 120v, it can't power anything

It’s AC, and yes 100 watts is pretty much useless. Hell 400 watts is pretty useless. I don’t know why toyota makes it drop when driving, but they’ve done the same thing since the 2nd gen Tacoma dropped in 2005. Hence the mod mentioned above.

Yep had the same thing on my old 2009 Tacoma, 400/100 watts are both worthless, Not enough to run even a small shop vac. I wish I knew what Toyota was "targeting" this to really be used for ?

One time I thought I could charge some power tools on a craftsman battery charger while driving to my destination, the Tacoma completely ruined the battery charge.

On the Tacoma forums, i remember seeing guys used to run Xmas lights in there bed for the holidays. At least someone found some use for the plug.

My old Tacoma had the 3000 watt anytime mod.

    Not cheap, but very effective.

Sienna is only capable of 1500 output because the inverter is powered by the hybrid battery.

I know, they should have the same or more on the hybrid tundra to add to that package

Yeah, Fords are out here powering houses with their Hybrid and mine can't power a strong fan. Lame.

our new 2023 Sienna AWD 25th Anniversary edition we just got has already cooked bacon wrapped sausages in a crock pot on the way to a party, HA

    now that is important.

but ya the inverter in our Sienna is really nice, we have a vacuum in there , pump, you can run tons of shit off it and it has two ports, sure nice, and thats only 1500 watts, ford has 7.2 kW
