I drove the 72 station wagon with the 396 engine as a teenager. Fun stuff. Too bad it went to the wrecking yard. Same color blue but not as nice. Too many holes in the floor boards though. More of a Fred Flintstone mobile.

Have posted a few before but had no luck finding them. The PC they were on took a dump years back and lost many family pics, much less pics of Cut and 69 C10 :annoyed:

I posted the pics of my dad's cutlass 1/2 disassembled in his garage on TS. Just recently I posted the 350 engine here with it being held up by 2 exhaust manifold bolts.

I almost bought the 87 version of the LX with the 5.0L V8 and the wing on the back for $1200 back in 97 which was hit in the left front fender. Before I could get my father to look it over since he did autobody, someone else swiped it up. :(

Just as well anyway, these cars are notoriously bad in any sort of winter weather with snow on the ground. Great fun to drive in nice weather though.

Yeah it was fun. I grew up riding in it then drove it for a bit in high school and after. I got my 96 corvette a few years back and just haven't messed with this thing. I need the garage space its been occupying for the last 20 years and it's been sitting untouched for the last 3 years. Figure it's time for it to move on, preferably to someone I don't know and they won't tell me they turned it into a drag car like all the rest of the foxbodys.

those were sleepers without the wing. Tune that little 302 up above 300 ponies with some go fast bits. Looked like the 6, went like stink.

Gonna hafta agree to disagree on that one. '68-'72 Chevelle is classic, peak, pinnacle GM sports car, one of the hottest they ever made under the bowtie badge.

Must be a generational thing, I'm rather fond of 60s-70s cars. I think 62-72 were probably the pinnacle years of American automotive.

Too bad I didn't know you were dealing with it back then, I've had pretty good success w/data recovery with dead systems, dead disks. Good chance I could've recovered your stuff.

I miss my C10. Talk about easy ass wiring diagrams. Only needed 3 wires through the firewall for the 250 to run, before stuffing the LS1 into it

T-top don't leak? My old friend Turley, "awesome Bill from Dawsonville", had a wicked all-black 5.0 bitd. I remember it had periodic leaks. One of my friends with a 280z had similar. And my grandma on her mid-80s Firebird. It's almost like it's a bad idea to put a removable window in the roof above the passenger and driver or something

Yeah no we agree 100%. It's the single headlight Chevelles that I didn't like but I'm starting to come around to em. I love the double headlight Chevelles and the 60's notch backs are sexy

True, but for some reason I really didn't really like the look of it without the wing to give it more bulk in the back. Although it was much better looking and less weight than the bloated GT with it's body kit, IMO.

Ah, so you just dislike the front on the '71-'72. Gotcha.

My cousin lives in Vegas and races straight-line. All she's ever driven is '71-72 to my knowledge. I personally prefer the 4 headlight models myself, with square front on the '70 versus the slanted-brow front on the '68-'69.

4 headlights is why I always liked the GMC front-end on the 67-72 pickups a little more than their GM counterparts. Just something about 4 headlights ...

I always liked the hatchback fox 5.0's. the first time I saw a convertible foxbody I was like "WTF?" Than I saw the LS hardtop and was still not having it. They grown on me since. Not the convertible though.

Yup. I think I had it all of about 18 months. It was fun to drive, 6spd MT, but just didn't quite cut it for my taste. Replaced it with the 99.5 GTi VR6 MT, night and day difference.

I had an 04 base model automatic. No power at all until you hit the higher RPM's. My dad bought it new then I bought it from him when I was in college. Got rid of it in 2012. I really wish he had bought the Type S model. Substantially faster.

Super fun driving it on The Dragon though. That car handled very well.

I had the S. It was still boring, honestly, even in manual format where you could more easily ride closer to redline. That GTI I bought after selling the RSX at a small loss really put it to shame.

I'll give the Germans that: They make really, really fun-to-drive cars. I loved my MKIV GTI, MKV Jetta, and BMW E60. But goddamnit if I haven't complained enough about their reputation for reliability once you get a couple years in. If you manage to get one that doesn't have electrical issues, which is hit or miss, plastic and rubber stuff ends up cracking, be it interior plastics, switches, vacuum tubes, which can send you down some crazy rabbitholes.

RSX = Honda Civic. I would argue the Acura RSX as the Tundra equivalent in it's space. Competent and competitive, but lags behind the others in many performance metrics. Reliable as hell though. I personally wouldn't own another VAG product. Had one, riddled with gremlins. I would buy a Honda or Toyota anything and feel pretty safe about my purchase. But I'm kinda boring and like things to be a little more predictable. If I had to pick between a Type S RSX or a Golf GTi, I'm going RSX. I have no desire to own either though.

Good morning! While you guys are talking cars, I'll jump in to this vague segue to VW's... anyone got personal experience with Passat SEL 3.6L ?

I'm casually stalking used cars looking for a 1st ride for my son and, even though I'd strongly prefer a 4 cylinder Toyota or Honda, they're damned expensive here in SoCal. Meanwhile, my uncle died recently and a bunch of shuffling of assets is going on to get my aunt comfortable for the years ahead. She's got a 2012 with < 25k miles. Garaged its entire life, but it's mostly done short street errands, probably not enough freeway driving to keep the various seals and what-nots happy. I had a 2001 Passat and loved it. And this engine is supposed to be good for longevity. But I know the wiring, seals, access to repair anything, could all suck, and repairs can be very expensive.

    Please weigh in...

They drive great (as you know) and are pretty comfortable. Safe cars, good for young drivers. It's the upkeep that gets you. Also young drivers may see higher premiums on cars that are this expensive to repair. If it's a free car to you or under your expected 1st car budget significantly, why not. Otherwise, keep looking for the car you really want. A road trip for a good deal is part of the fun.

Yeah, I agree. I'm not gonna get a great deal because I'm as motivated to get my aunt set up as to get my kid going. But... the looking hasn't been as much fun as if it was for something *I* want. Lol. Ain't nobody got time for this.

If you thought the Type S was boring you would have hated mine. I knew someone that had a Type S and I thought it was fun. Mine was the same color as yours too.

I don't see many RSX left on the road and when I do, they are all strung out. My neighbor has a silver one that's missing a front bumper and beat to hell.

My starter went out twice but aside from that it was solid. It had around 170k miles when I traded it in.

Look at the positive side. You can force him to learn how to fix cars himself or let it become a paperweight. (most kids with a car would choose the former over the latter)

How can you ever learn about cars if it's never breaking down? :D

He has zero interest. I know that if I want him to learn the basics, it has to be accessible enough that I can do and require that he assist. Which, along with general reliability, is why I've been looking for a high mileage Toyota. Or Honda. You know, so he could learn in something more manageable. Our neighborhood includes a mechanic that owns a bunch of Toyotas, and a father/son household that build and street race Hondas. Ain't nobody on the block I know, that wants to do driveway repair of a modern VW.

I guess what I'm wanting is to know if anyone on here would think it worthwhile to try this super low miles luxury sporty safe car with a great engine but... well, unsure about effects of garaged but few freeway miles on gaskets and other wear stuff. I mean, if it looks good visually (can't find cracks) and passes a smog inspection, would you do it?
