I have the rack attach and don’t use it bc of it’s decreased departure angle. If you have to swing I’d go with the newest Kuat. Ultimately I like the hitch riser/extender i got. Works well with the tailgate, rear access, and off roading!50ABA3D0-9C27-439D-8E7E-24F7E860EBD2.jpg0D3C0A18-BABB-4713-AA4D-4293124D9D10.jpg

I had not seen the newest Kuat swing away. Their old one hung really low, which was why I was going to go with the rack attach. Their new one looks pretty compact. Thanks for the heads up.

With all the talk about the tray style racks, I started doing a little research into it last night. When I googled it, an ad at the top said that Walmart had this Allen AR200 2 tray on clearance for $90.

So at 10:30 last night I’m assembling this thing and I’ve gotta say, it’s pretty high quality. It’s likely that the huge cost difference is in the fit and finish compared to those $700 racks but it has really good reviews everywhere that I looked and it will fit my needs for now. Bike seems ultra secure and it doesn’t rattle. Only thing I’m really concerned with is the longevity of the wheel straps. I’ll also probably end up welding a loop to it somewhere for a cable lock.

I recognize a $700 rack is not the only solution ;)
I honestly prefer a tailgate pad. I just don’t always have a tailgate on my vehicle.

Took it for a test today and appears very secure. I can put the tailgate down completely with the trays horizontal. The ability to tilt the trays does add a little breathing room.
Thanks for getting me to think about my kitchen. We always cook away from the truck but I can see where the desire for a pivot arm may come back into my mind. We’ll see..

    This is the way!

When OP said hitch I was wondering if anyone didn't make a bed rack...but what do I know.

Not sure your budget but i would recommend checking out Rigd Supply Ultra Swing and a 1Up bike Rack. Very stable for off-roading bike rack system and doubles as a cooking table if you want.

Are you running this combo? I was thinking about this but seems like a lot of weight, and length hanging off the back of the truck. With 3 or four bikes, and a 35" tire, I could be pushing 250-300 Lbs. Tongue rating is 500# I believe, but I would be constantly hitting the bumpstops with that weight and the driving I do.

All the brands mentioned so far are good racks. I especially like 1UP or whatever they have become. That said, I am currently using Rockymounts and love it. Here's why: it fits fat bikes, 29'ers are no problem, it lowers to allow the tailgate to fold down, it has been solid for the past six years. I have the High Noon model.

If you want a two bike that works with the tailgate. I will sell you my Kuat sherpa for the price of shipping it. it is a little worn in but it works without a flaw. It just needs a new hitch pin.
