Is there any reason(s) to not get a 2019-2021 lower mileage Tundra?

Been answered before but they don't have transmission coolers.

As an owner of a 2019 sport, the only reason I could think of are these two items being VERY important.

    1. MPG
    2. Big Payload #

If those 2 are not significant factors in your next truck, then this is the bulletproff V8 truck for you.

If you want big Payload, consider an HD truck from one of the big 3. If you want high MPG, consider a 22+ Tundra.

My 2019 is beat to crap because I use it everywhere including the ranch. I swear one of my bulls knows what dealer tags are, & he gets a big kick out of smashing into any new vehicle brought to the ranch that does not get parked up by the house. I really think I could survive a nuclear attack with this truck! It is super dependable & will last forever!!
It tows just fine & I know there are times when it’s over loaded. The only issue is the poor gas mileage but I was aware of that going into my search for another truck so I don’t look at the gas mileage numbers.

It depends on what you want it for. If you are looking for a tow pig for a 25+ foot camper, or if you want to load the bed with tons of stuff, you'll be better served getting an HD truck. The Tundra has a really low payload rating.

If you just need a truck to handle some light off-roading, to move the occasional couch, or to tow a tiny trailer then you'll be hard pressed to find a better truck.

For those of us who live in the country, gas mileage is fine with a light foot and factory tires/rake. Mine is actually better than EPA est.
5.7 Averages about 19 all of the time.

    OP, best truck made, imho....

Thanks @RCwyoming good points - the bulletproof engine, reliability, not overpaying for a brand new truck with questionable reliability (from the other big 3) ... and increasing my towing capacity from our current daily driver - Tacoma.
And hopefully we don't have to ever worry about surviving the nuclear attack you speak of... :alien:

How much are you planning to tow, because you'll never pull a camper that is anywhere close to the tow rating without being over payload.

Current trailer is ~3500lbs ... doubt we'd go with a bigger trailer - but I guess hearing that makes me pause... thanks @GODZILLA

3500 lbs you'll haul no problem, but if you are planning to push beyond around 6000 lbs I'd look really hard at the payload. I had one and was struggling to get a 6000 lbs trailer that wouldn't eat the payload with just me in the truck. If you have gear or passengers, you run out of payload really quick on Toyota trucks.

The lack of a tranny cooler is not a reason not to get one. You can easily add one for <$1000. It goes back to what your needs are.

Satin black roof, 18” KO2’s, satin black powder coated steel rims, tri fold tonneau cover. Led lights interior, exterior. Trd pro grill. 13” ryonnair antenna. OEM LED headlights.
I bought a 14’ back in December and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’ll have this truck forever.. gas mileage isn’t the greatest as is well known. But plenty of power for a weekend truck user. Still able to tow a solid amount. What you spend in gas money you’ll save in repairs with these tundra’s.

Ford owners don't have the brainpower to check the payload, so they don't notice they are over when they hookup to their 35' toy haulers. That's why they drive Fords instead of Toyotas. :p

If I really have to do this,
    1. size of the truck is too big for the occasional driving into cities
    2. MPG (but the cost of long term ownership is way lower than others due to the low maintenance and less issues to pay to fix)
    3. Price of these trucks are going way up since pre-pandemic.

I have put 36k in the past 3 years of owning it, taken it to offroad averaging once a month and other than that it also serves me well as a daily commuter to haul family around.

@king.cong.1119 that's awesome - good points - but convincing me to get one asap! My wife and I have been juggling our Tacoma as our daily driver for one car for a bit now and I'm over it. AND ... it looks like ya might be on IBSP or maybe Brigantine beaches in that one pic? Your truck looks sweet!
    Cheers.

Gas mileage sucks and it’s big so parking and maneuvering sucks, that’s all I dislike about my ‘19. I don’t tow or haul a lot so payload isn’t a big deal to me. I love the power of the V8.

My Tundra tows a goose neck trailer with at least 3 big round hay bales at a time every morning (2,000 lbs. each dry weight) during the winter months. Sometimes the load is much larger, depending on which herds show up for breakfast. I’ve never had an issue towing unless it’s in deep snow. This winter in Wyoming has been a tough one & the D11 dozer had to get dusted off to clear pastures to allow access to the cattle. The Tundra kept up & saved our livelihood many times. It my opinion, the newer base models for Ford, Chevy, & Ram are severely lacking in durability. I usually clean house - vehicle wise - every 2 years. The Tundra is going to stay on the ranch forever.

Don't get a Tundra if you're gonna whine about gas mileage. Just in general: Don't get a Tundra if you don't really need a truck and you're gonna whine about it not being a car (fuel economy, size, ride comfort, etc).
Don't get a Tundra if you need to tow 12k lb equip or load the bed with triple the payload capacity. Don't get a Tundra if you need a 3/4- 1 ton diesel.
Other than that, if you need a half ton truck, there is zero reason not to buy a Tundra.

The required oil change intervals of 750 miles is cost prohibitive.

You pretty much nailed it. Historically, my trucks have been Ford and GMCs. We bought our Tundra as it has commonality of parts with our Sequoia.

My only other gripe is the needle bearing on the 4x4 Tundras.

I still think the Tundra will be far more reliable than Ford with their 10-speed nightmare of a transmission. I’ve had innumerable problems with GMCs, too much to list. Toyota 2.5 Gen is a fine choice that will last a long time if maintained.

Get a 2017 if you don't want all the electric nannies an 18 if you don't mind them. Then get a tune.
