To Overland or Not to Overland

  1. I would like to join an Overland Detachment.

Sand is just like hills, give the guy in front plenty of room because you never know if he is going to stop, need to back, etc. Give them space

And to add on this, I always slow down and approach ridges at angles in the sand like Superstition and Glamis because you never know when there's going to be a steep razorback on the back side.

This is seldom true. The following truck gets stuck if they follow too close to react when the truck in front gets stuck.

You’re thinking of PJ who needed to get winched out. I’m talking about Luke with the prerunner and no bed.
Agreed but this was one of those rare moments. It was a 2wd open diff and we were on that section of Sand Highway where you start to curve up into Sand Dam. There was no where in that spot that Luke could’ve stopped and not gotten stuck. Even after I got him unstuck he sank in again. I ended up having to drag him back about 100 feet and up a hill so he could get going again

Yeaaaaa Luke had a long night. After that we went around to a more 2wd friendly way up to Sand Dam I didn’t know about. He made 2 attempts but didn’t carry enough speed. I went up to scout ahead for him and while I was gone Erice went down and they nearly crashed into each other at the bottle neck

After that he backed down and got stuck again and then waited like 20 minutes for me to come back because I was sitting at the top trying to not mess him up like Erice did. It was alllllllll bad

yes - stuff isn’t cheap but comes out very nice and the areas we tested for touching up came out good as well.

My recollection is yes to service but I doubt there is much bandwidth available. Verizon is showing LTE coverage on their map.

Awesome thanks. I’ll have the weboost going; hopes that it helps. Boss is starting to get cold feet haha.

Probably will just give him my InReach number and tell him to text me on there and “I’ll drive into town”. Mention he gets 10 text messages so make them count.

^ That’s the plan. Thinking of lifting the front with an engine hoist to hold it from the center while we work the sides unless you have a better suggestion!

Yup and figure out what thread pitch your winch bolts are and get a couple different length versions. Maybe it was just me but getting the front winch bolts in was a complete mind f*ck because my bolts were too long and wouldn’t turn the corner to drop into the access hole.
