RIP TUNDRA? After 7 months in the body shop, now SOLD TO CARMAX

I can use any shop I want, ya.

I was trying to use recommended shops that would use OEM materials, but they are all booked so far out. The last place I called is in insurance network and can see my truck a lot sooner. I don't plan on keeping the truck at this point anyways. I'd just like it fixed or totaled so I can move on and stop paying for a truck I can't use.

 

Bed is back on with the help from some friends. And truck is 95% back to stock. I left in the 450 lph fuel pump. Couple hundred bucks, but I don't feel like rewiring in the original after modding the basket.

Truck goes in to Caliber Collision next Wednesday for additional estimates and parts ordering. Then scheduled to be dropped off for repairs to begin in late May.

Then I'm selling or trading it in. Likely for a 2014 - 2015 Lexus LX 570. I can move the supercharger, wheels and tires over to it.

 

Did a nationwide search to check on prices for my truck. Below is the closest I could find in terms of trim level, options, and miles. It has 16k miles, my truck has 9,950 miles. The car fax lists single owner and damage in front. It's listed for $56,950, about $450 more than I maid for mine originally!

So the truck is definitely getting sold or traded in. List it for $56k privately, or $50k for trade in (hopefully).

Also gonna be looking into Land Cruisers, whichever has more availability nearby I guess. They're about the same price as the LX, only a couple of grand cheaper for similar mileage.

Get 1 whole mpg more in the Land cruiser lol

 

I think you might be better off starting at 2016. That's the face-lift year.

I meant the look and price of the 2016+ LX. Does the 2016+ land cruiser have the vented seats? I also should find out if those 2016+ are still tunable with the s/c

 

Looks like they do have vented seats in the 2016+ land cruiser. They don't in the earlier years. But the price point on those run away quickly. That exterior update does look better than the LX on 2016+

So cool, yet odd. That interior is super 70's. Never seen shag in a car. Looks like it never had the 3rd row.

 

Went and rinsed the truck off at the car wash. Shop visit for supplemental estimates and parts ordering tomorrow at Caliber Collision. We'll see if the bill reaches $55k to total it out.

Shop said these trucks are too valuable to total out lol, dang it. I should know a better eta tomorrow after he does the parts research and ordering. But said the work will take about a month to complete. Who knows how long to wait for the parts

 

Sorry, do you have a rental? Are they replacing or repairing the bed?

 

No...I don't have rental or tow coverage on the truck. Was trying to save some money since I have other vehicles and a trailer. But my deductible is only $250, so there's that.

He said they'd likely repair the bed over replacing it. As long as the truck looks like new I really don't care anymore. It's getting sold or traded in as soon as it's fixed.

 

Lol, oh man, looking at it, I have such doubts that it'd be feasible!

 

When my Tacoma was totaled in July 2021, my insurance company told me they totaled out once the damage repair estimate went beyond 50 or 75% of the value of the truck, can’t remember which exactly. It’s cheaper for the insurance company to total and regain the salvage value at that point. I also popped every airbag, which I was also told is an immediate death sentence from the insurance adjuster for modern cars.

 

That makes sense. Assuming the truck is worth every penny of $55k, which a Platinum 4x4 with only 9900 miles is, that'd be about $41k in repair bills. I think the price is gonna start going up when they start trying to fix the damage in the rear of the cab and finally open the rear door. At this point they don't know how bad the rocker panel is behind it because it won't open.

 

Just needs a new bed, cab, frame, truck...

That sucks, maybe get the bodyshop to demand storage that will push it over totaled if it sits there for months?

 

They won't accept the vehicle until parts are ready for the repair. I'm watching some salvage auctions to see what the Tundras are selling for on copart. It may be that I buy a front end damage write-off and use those parts on my truck. idk...depends on how much they're auctioning off for.

 

Need it for work & it is unsafe so loss of income? Alien attack defense vehicle? Dead Grandmother necessary transport? Gotta be something.

i saw you're looking on your own now. I had to do the same to get my truck back on the road last year. Took about 3 months of "national backorder" calls i decided to do my own research and found it within a week lol. Good luck on your search!

I tore down the spare shower over a year ago lol. Got most of the Hardie board hung yesterday and finished removing old tile and material around the window. Just mocked up the new shower tower

 

Got a member over off TacomaWorld to put in a word for me at my preferred shop from last month that I couldn't get to schedule me. Owner called and spoke with me. Sent him pictures and estimates directly to his email this time. Hoping they can look at my truck before I give Caliber Collision (State Farm's shop) any money. Wreck Effects only uses OEM parts and procedures to repair instead of LKQ parts. Fingers crossed.
