Best ground location in bed

Just like the title, where would the best ground location be in the bed? Or should I go through a through hole and down to the frame of the truck? Thanks.

 

Depends on what you're trying to ground, and what you have in your bed (spray liner? plastic liner?). If you're just trying to ground a led light, go off something convenient. If you're installing an inverter, best to do a home run to the batt or at least go to the frame and make sure the connection is clean and solid.

 

I have a rough sprayed in liner. I am grounding the air compressor that I mounted in the bed. I am thinking of running it to the chassis.

 

That's your best bet, air comp is a decent load. There should be a couple of access holes with plastic/rubber plugs on the cab side of your bed you can go thru.

 

I see the thru hole you mentioned. I also see several bolts that hold fuel lines to the chassis. Can I use that bolt for a ground or find one that doesn’t hold a metal fuel line.

 

If its just one of those viair or arb airbag/train-horn compressers, a bolt should be fine. If its something more serious I'd find a more dedicated ground. Personally I'd go with the later, but I overdo everything.

I have an overlanding solar setup and just drilled through the bed and went straight to the chassis with a 4/0 wire. Drill as close to the cab as you can get, or you will start cutting into a bracket the helps hold the bed in place. Crawl under the truck and look up at it. You will see it plain as day.
