What’s your FGT worth

Thought this might be an amusing thread to track value with time.

My personal FGT is a 2002 RC v8 4wd SR5 and I would guess that it might fetch $10k on the open market.

As far as what it’s worth to me personally, given time and money and emotional attachment, upwards of 30 and maybe even beyond 40? I’m not even sure I would sell it for 50 to be honest. Maybe 80 or a trade for an R1S but even then, not sure. Very irrational how I feel about this truck.

Most of this is based on the lack of RC pickup truck options and the proven reliability of older Toyota vehicles. Another part of me feels like the early 2000’s were a special kind of sweet spot of design, adequate tech for basic needs like ABS but not so overdone as to be oppressive or excessively costly to maintain.

I’m a software guy by day so I know how f’d up complicated code can become. I feel like my 2016 Tacoma is a prime example of that, it really should have some torque at low RPM but the ECU firmware is just unable to get out of its own way.

So, anyway, the idea here is, post your general config, what you think it’s worth to some random schmo, and what it’s worth to you. Then we can track it over time, maybe update every 5 years?

I’m very curious to see how EV pickups impact our FGT MV and personal value numbers.

    I disabled my ABS :)

If there was an early 90s tundra, I would have one instead. That was the real peak of automotive design. The sweet spot, post EFI, pre OBD2.

No idea what mine is worth. Bought it for $3K, from someone who bought it for $2600.

The thought of putting up with anything newer than about 2010 gives me nightmares though...so its pretty much priceless as far as I am concerned.

I'm guessing I could get $12k for mine because it's in great shape. If someone offered me $30k I'm not even sure I'd say yes. I see a LOT of first gens here in Tennessee but the majority are in really rough shape. Every body panel dented and never seen a coat of wax.

Shoot, I love my truck (my wife routinely lets me know how silly I am, haha), but if someone offered me $20k for it (twice what I’m in it for) I’d have a hard time not selling it. I’d just start my hunt for a nice truck over again and then have some extra money to putz around with. It’d be different I think if it held some emotional or family connection for me, but it doesn’t.

Sold my rust free, nicely upgraded '05 to my dad for $15K, with the caveat that I get to buy it back when he doesn't need a truck anymore. 2 weeks later, a bone stock '05 with rust and 50% more miles on it was listed in my town for $20K. It sold in a day or two.

My 2006 is about to hit 92K miles. I could probably...I dunno...$12K to $15K for it? No way I'd sell for that. The way I see it, I have a dependable truck with low miles and (hopefully) a long life ahead of it. And its paid for. If I sold it, I would have to replace it with a dependable, low-mileage truck that I will get many more years out of. And I would need to sell my truck for enough money to pay cash for the replacement. If I was offered $50K, I might consider it. Otherwise, I'm good with what I have.

Dirt Deeds injectors, Addco rear sway, AEM dry flow air filter, last ever set of Stan's Try-Y headers, Borla full custom exhaust, front level, wheel spacers, and lots of electronics.
Bought mine for $14k about 4 years ago. Dropped another $8-$9k in performance, maintenance, and comfort/convenience upgrades. I like this truck too much to sell it, and it's a ring and pinion swap away from being in my sweet spot.

If I were forced to sell it, I would list it for $25k and hope noone bought it. Hahahaha

For reference: I'm the 2nd owner of a dealer maintained southern (Texas up until '19 then Georgia) rust free truck with only ~128k miles. Clean '06 2WD DC TRD Off-Road. Timing belt, wp, t-stat, all maintenance and fluids, headers, full custom exhaust, injectors, 18" BBS, level kit, Sequoia rear sway, Roll-N-Lock bed cover, new-ish paint. I could go on and on with the upgrades. Love the 1st Gens and I don't plan on ever selling it.

Yeah, this all resonates with me. Same thought process for me. Took me a while to find a good one and would hate to sell but I couldn’t pass on any opportunity in life to double my money on something!

I bought mine two years ago for $9K. I wouldn't sell it for $20K. The only thing $20K would get me is a monthly payment on a replacement. I'm not doing the monthly payment thing ever again if I can help it.

You got a great deal! Paid 11k for mine in January with 42k on it. Old man truck. Paint and clear shot. More surface rust on mine than I’d like (TX truck but spent a lot of time in Utah), but all treatable with some elbow grease. Inside though it’s a time capsule, engine bay too.

I guess you could call mine an old man truck. I bought it off my old man, hence the great deal (thanks dad).

I'll echo the comments above & add . . .'Not For Sale'. LOL.

When I had my Reg.Cab Tacoma I said, "Man, I really like those Gen 1 DC Tundras".
When I had my Extra Cab Tacoma I said, "Man, I really like those Gen 1 DC Tundras".
When I had my AC Gen 1 Tundra I said, "Man I STILL really like those Gen 1 DC Tundras".

Now I really like my Gen. 1 DC Tundra. .

Top pic, just a few weeks ago. Not long after I got the 18" BBS wheels.

2nd pic, before I installed those headers.

3rd pic, a couple months after I first bought her. 2016 Taco wheels with 1.5" wheel spacers all around and 1.5" front level kit.

4th pic, dyno after header/exhaust install. Blue lines stock, red lines modified.

5th pic, black CoverCraft seat covers. To go with my dark charcoal interior 6th and 7th pic showing dark factory interior.

8th pic, in my garage a few weeks ago after installing the new (to me) BBS after thoroughly cleaning them and before resto.

I probably wouldn’t sell mine even for $100k. Having been in the family since new, the emotional attachment is far too great. It was a gift from my grandpa who bought the truck new.

As others have said, I think it’s in the sweet spot of having the needed computers, like for fuel injection or ABS, yet so many things are still mechanical, like HVAC controls, the gearshift, and even the throttle pedal.

Again, I wouldn’t sell, but I was offered $8k a couple of months ago, and then $10k when I said no. I think that’s pretty good for a 200k mile truck that’s seen a frame replacement, ball joint failure, and more.

I really like that it’s value is appreciating, I joke with my friends and family that it’s an “appreciating asset”

This'll be be if somebody offered me more than I paid for it 6 years ago.

But seriously I don't really need a truck it's just handy to have around. I'd miss it but it's in the end just a vehicle.

Bought mine in 17 for 15 (I know it was too much but it was just what I wanted) it had 110k on it. If I had to guess what it’s worth I’d probably say about 12-15 now, probably worth about 20 to me, if I was forced to list it I’d probably list it at 25 so I didn’t have to sell…it’s my insurance policy in case I need to live in a van down by the river:rofl:

The good ones are worth 10-20. Mine has additional 10 in sweat equity. So I would sell for 50.

I only say 25 because I know I could pick up another and have the funding to get it where I want it to be…I’m probably another 5k out from where I want mine to be at the moment but knowing is half the battle, after the cam seals last month and doing hub bearing x3 I know some of what to expect if I were to grab another…if I had to do it again I might go for a sequoia or LX470 to make it easier to haul the kids around…still working that angle to the wife so I can have 2 off road capable vehicles in the driveway

Not sure what mine is worth but if someone offered me more than book I’d probably sell it. I learned a long time ago everything is for sale at the right price. I’ve had people offer double what I thought something was worth and sold things like that immediately.
