check engine light came on, dealer checked and found squirrel has chewed large line connected to gas tank. Line is built into tank so gas tank has to be replaced $2300. anyone else dealt with this issue? Any preventative steps after replacement?

Getting a couple outside cats comes to mind. Sorry about the damage, that sucks.

I don't have any preventative answers for you.

At $2300 for a 38gl tank( assuming), I'd look into a 46gl Transferflo tank replacement.

    My 2¢.

During the pandemic, I was working from home so we didn't really drive both of our cars. My Lexus had rodent that chewed up all the main wiring harness. Total damage was 11k, but insurance took care of it.

It really just depends on where you park your car. If outside, not sure if there is anything you can do about it.

That’s a new variation on an old problem - yea usually it’s soy based wires getting eaten.

First - if you have a anything more than liability - call insurance, it’s a comprehensive or OTC claim likely and covered.

Secondly - agree with putting on an aftermarket or larger tank suggestion. Why not take advantage of opportunity to upgrade. Finding a used (LKQ) tank is likely a tough task / but can ask if it’s an option.

As to preventing it from occurring again - I like the idea of rodent tape. Sprays and such will likely be a temporary fix - you don’t really want to have to apply the stuff every 3 months. Parking away from trees or areas of tree rat activity would help too - but can’t always be done of course.
