I think you’re right. I put the old style Pro grille in my 17, but I’m really liking the honeycomb that came on the sport.

No, I was just able to salvage most of my upgrades before insurance came and got the truck.

Got it. So you put rims and tires on it right? I thought I read that back somewhere in the thread. Where are the pics? lets see the new shoes.

You can probably use the trans cooler that comes on the Land cruiser, it's on the same 5.7 V8 as the tundra.

I installed the kit from Genuine Cooling Systems genuinecoolingsystems@gmail.com I think there is a supply chain hold up on some of the parts right now but you can email him to find out. It is a quality kit using Toyota parts for function OEM thermostat, hard lines to hoses with a custom made mounting for the cooler which is after market. Setrab coolers last I heard. Quite an easy install if you have some mechanical ability.

I bought a 2020 tundra from the dealership 47,000 miles on it previous owner took really good care of the truck it was in mint condition. However he did tow with it. Well I owned it for 2 weeks and while driving it started shifting weird then wouldn’t shift above 4th gear. The shift solenoid went bad and they are replacing the entire transmission under warranty. Seems odd to me.

Any mention of the condition of the fluid? The guy I mentioned had very dark, burnt-smelling fluid when they decided to replace his transmission. The service manager wrote specifically wrote that Toyota deleted the cooler up front and the thermostat that the trucks used to come with.

I looked at their site and they are offering the kit minus the trans cooler lines that they say are not available from Toyota at the moment but you might be able to source locally. So I checked the Toyota site and It would appear that maybe they have the part available now because it doesn't say anything about the part being on backorder. I don't know how the Toyota website works but pretty much every website I know of will state that a part is on back order if they don't have it so I am assuming that they may very well have the part back in stock.

Why would Toyota decide to take the trans cooler off of the Tundra and leave it on the Land Cruisers? That makes no sense. The Tundra is the vehicle that you would expect to be used and abused. After all how many 5th wheels are you going to tow with a Land Cruiser?

My guess is they included stupid Toyota safety sense so they cut something to keep the bean counters happy. Happens to be an incredibly stupid decision in my opinion.

Some people think the switch to a different refrigerant starting in 2019 made the ac less efficient so they needed the extra surface area that used to be occupied by the trans cooler and just didn’t redesign the trans cooler since that generation was getting ready to be replaced anyway

I don't know about that one. It would be 4 model years before the change and that could potentially be a lot of trucks needing service under warranty. Plus it wouldn't be that hard to fit the cooler. It is definitely being done after market.

Finally getting started on some mods. Put the wheels and tires on from my previous Tundra. Replaced the stock antennae with a stubby. And installed some cat plates.

Wow. The previous owner really did take good care of that truck because that paint looks real nice and seeing that it is black that's no small feat. I like black but I don't know if I would ever have a black truck. Mine with the magnetic grey is hard enough to keep clean and I use it for work. But that paint looks great. I don't even see any swirls.

What size tires and wheels are those?

So what else are you planning? Are you planning on doing any kind of lift on it? I just got done with a complete custom sound system install in mine. Took a whole lot of work, quite a bit of time and pretty good chunk of change but in the end I'm digging it. I will probably do a build thread on it here in a few days.

Sorry again for the late reply, spring break was busy with the kids!

The wheels are 18” Toyota oem wheels off my previous Off Road package. I had them powder coated black. The tires are Cooper Discoverer XLT AT3 275/70/18. I’m debating a small lift, maybe just a level for now but that’s not top on my priority list.

I still need to add the drivers side grab handle that’s sitting in my garage. Also will had the ESP underseat storage.

I’m debating on what to do about my stereo. I pulled my Pioneer HU out of my old Tundra, but if I’m being honest, I didn’t love it. I loved having CarPlay and the larger screen, and the HU really woke up the speakers. But the Pioneer interface and screen lag were annoying. So I’m still weighing the pros and cons. I’ll probably end up putting it back in. I need to call Crutchfield and see if the harnesses I have will work for a 2019.

If you have the time check out my sound system build here.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/2019-crewmax-all-new-custom-sound-system-diy-build-thread.122853/

It's pretty involved and is likely more then you would want to do but worth checking out anyways. It should be pretty informative as I am trying to give some instruction along the way. If you are looking for a head unit to replace the Pioneer I can highly recommend the Sony XAV-9500ES. It is a bit pricy but it is a night and day difference over the Pioneer unit you have now. I have this unit in my ride and it works flawlessly. It is very responsive unlike the Pioneer which I understand can be quite buggy and suffers from lag. It has the wireless car play and with the idata Maestro RR2 with the right "T" harness it is a plug and play unit that retains all of the factory features. If you want to find out what cables and adapters you need you will find all of that on my build thread.

I would not recommend you get any of the Android radios.

Appreciate the info, I’ll definitely check that out!

One of my big hesitations with putting the Pioneer back in is will I lose any of the features in the instrument cluster? I didn’t have the updated cluster in my 17 so I didn’t have to worry about it. But will the Maestro keep the compass/nav directions, etc?

Do you know if it has to do with which Maestro you have? I’ve seen other threads on here saying you don’t retain the compass or nav screen.
