What state were you driving in? Most states have a claims process to pay for the damages from potholes. If it was Colorado, scroll to the middle/end of this article to get the phone number/website to submit a claim.

I don't understand the 22 inch wheels on a luxury oriented truck. They weigh more and ride rougher. Get some smaller OEM rims and tires to match. You can easily drop 10lbs or more of unsprung weight off of each corner of your truck.

Exactly. Getting rid of 10lbs of unsprung mass, particularly rotating mass, will have outsized positive affects on the ride and handling of the vehicle.

Big cast aluminum Donk wheels are stupid, they’ve always been stupid, and will remain stupid for the foreseeable future.

A bit tough to install 5 lug wheels on 6 lug hubs, but I wholeheartedly agree with the idea. ;) I wouldn’t run 20” wheels here, let alone 22”. We get some pretty neat potholes here too, some remind me of the terrain you take your jeep to play in.

That's right...shit. Well he will have to get '22 or newer take offs.

This past summer a few of my friends did a kick ass trip from CO to Alaska. They said some of the roads were pretty bad, but definitely better in Canada than the US.

Lol, exactly. My 20" factory F150 wheels with 275/60R20 P-metrics weighed 91.5 lbs. I was able to swap to LT315/70R17 KO2's and the total wheel/tire weight was only 93 lbs. 2" larger OD and almost 2" wider and 1.5 lbs heavier.

Our roads here in Utah got wrecked this winter. There are a few potholes around that look bottomless. my cousin has a Land Rover with 21" wheels(I think) and has had multiple issues this winter with the wheels getting dinged.

Just got rid of the OEM pro wheels and got 17x9s instead. A whole lot cheaper to replace and I don't mind beating on the 17s with a larger tire.

First off I'm in LA...........Lower Arkansas.
I have for now going on 20 years been taking dozen of donuts to mostly older folks that can't easily get out to their house before daylight every Sunday morning on my dime. Something I enjoy doing. Started off with just a few but it's grown some. I get more out of it than they do.
I filed a claim today and they said to go by the Toyota dealer and let them look at it and order whats needed. I may buy a set of 18's for spares if I can find something that will look good on that trim.

LOL! I don't do enough offroading to need those tires, and I don't want the hassle, even worse MPG's and having to guess how fast I'm going!

Not to intentionally piss on everyone’s parade who puts on big tires, but unless your use case for the truck legitimately entails over 50% of your mileage being put on off road on unimproved trails; big knobby tires are not worth the hassle.

Intentionally making the truck slower, worse handling, less fuel efficient, and harder to get into or out of (both people and cargo) unless you absolutely need that extra ground clearance over 50% of the time is simply retarded. Furthermore you’re not fooling anyone that you’re some sort of super adventure off-road boy by slapping 35”s or 37”s on your 1/2 ton pavement queen. Everyone knows that 99% of those trucks never see anything more challenging than a gravel road.

Put a set of well rounded stock size, or 33” all terrain tires on and call it a day. Those will handle 99% of what 99% of us will ever realistically need. The other 1% who need that extra 1% are probably best served with something other than a $70,000 1/2 ton no matter what kind of shoes it’s wearing.

Ouch, that sucks! Granted, it's along shot, but some states will pay for damage caused by pot holes if over a certain size or have been reported and not repaired in a designated time. I wouldn't hold my breath, but worth looking into for that amount of damage.

If it happened on a RR crossing at grade that is RR property. Not sure what can be done about that, RR’s usually maintain the crossings because they don’t want some random city worker in there working for a variety of reasons.

The RR will also tell you to eat a bag of dicks if you jacked up your wheels or tires on their grade crossing. Their standard response to complaints from customers, employees, and the public invariably is some lawyer worded statement telling the complaining party to go to hell.

File a claim and buy some take offs. Keep the 2 extras as spares…

Could probably do a 5 tire rotation too. Or at least you have 2 extra tires, check that rear one over for impact damage, maybe 3 extra tires.

Good for you giving to seniors

We have plenty of road obstacles to deal with seasonally in mid-west Canada and its not really a problem if you don't drive you're sponsored by Monster Energy or park like a 16 year old chick. OP just got an expensive reminder to drive his truck like a truck and buy a SxS for the shinanegans.

I agree... sorta. When I bought my truck I was blown away that people would actually buy these things for commuting. They suck... imprecise mushy handling, ridiculously tall hood, have to climb up into them, hard to park, etc. I assure you that I wouldn't own a truck if I didn't need it (for hauling a camper that I'll be living in, and offroad). I like small cars for road use. I'm surprised lowering isn't more of a thing since you can make them look good, and performance and utility would be more sensible for most people. You can still haul and tow just fine after lowering. Kits are usually -2" front and -4" rear, but you could get rear leafs made to just lower the rear ~2", and give you a better ride.

But... big tires are great offroad. Ground clearance, shock absorbing, flotation, even better MPG. Handling is much better than stock since I upgraded the suspension, and my MPGs are better than nearly everybody on here. You gotta get the right tires. And a 2" front lift is plenty for 37... lifting more than necessary for clearance isn't helping anything.

Some random shots of lowered Tundras. Low profile seems to be the fad, but you don't have to go that way. Get some 17" or 18" and you'll have enough meat to avoid destroying rims.

Soooooo, don’t buy a sports car unless you’re gonna track it 50% of the time. Got it. Don’t buy a truck unless you’re gonna haul stuff in it or tow stuff with it 50% of the time. Got it. Makes perfect sense. Calling people retarded for doing as they please isn’t very ‘Murican. Folks like to do what folks like to do. Lots of city folk wearing cowboy boots.
