My new Capstand and me were om a predawn donut run and I hit a 8" deep pothole just right. Speed was about 30mph but damn. Bent both driver side rims with the front going flat. 22" rims don't have much sidewall. Anyone have a clue what those rims cost? I have $1000 deduct on insurance. With the tow and aglinment I'm sure its well over that deductable. Hope that are available also.IMG_4588.jpg

I believe this is the correct part number. Only capstone came with 22" wheels. At this price, you'll definitely be over the deductible.

Time for new 17” rims wrapped with some 37’s. It’ll be an easy sell to your wife to prevent this sort of misfortune in the future :)

Yeah, if I was dropping a grand on a deductible I’d replace those with some 17 or 18” aftermarket rims.

That tire wheel combo on the capstone made no sense at all from the first time i saw it. Whatever the cost is, get it replaced then sell the set.

I feel like an internal shift happened at toyota, no longer do they want to be the reliable cost conscious vehicle brand we’ve come to love and appreciate.

Ouch. Check locally for companies that specialize in fixing wheels. I've seen several that are even mobile. Might be cheaper?
But agree with those above. Smaller wheels and more rubber is the way to go.

We had factory 22’s on our Yukon. Absolutely worst rim/tire size combo for a smooth ride. No sidewall and everything is so GD expensive to replace. Never again. I’d take this opportunity to get out of the 22’s as fast as possible!

I'm an OEM kind of guy and with only 3500 on it I hate to change. I have a Tacoma Pro for whenever and this Tundra is my highway runner. I see several sets on eBay for around $4000 with new tires. I agree with the rough ride on these 22's but I'm a hardheaded OEM guy.

I called 911 and made a police report and to help with traffic while I loaded it on a friends car hauler. This pothole was in the center of a paved over railroad track. Too dark to spot or I feel like I could have missed it.

Jesus man. That's rough. I have had to replace 4 of my Lexus low profile wheels and two tires. Once I retire...that car is gone.

On the lighter side of things I thought "hell, he must be in Colorado..." then I looked up your location. Sure as flies on shit...Colorado.

That's the kind of thing that drives me away from low profile in the first place. I'd like to replace my 20's with 18's but don't want to part with the cash.

You can go smaller diameter rim and still be OEM. Lots of 1794 or Platinum take offs around if you want 20”. Or go an 18” OEM rim.

Normally I would agree with your inclination to leave the truck stock and stick with OEM wheels. However, the 22” wheels on the Capstone are stupid in every conceivable way possible on a 6000lb pickup truck. If you’ve bent one set of wheels already, chances are you will bend more wheels.

Toyota screwed up and spec’d a dumbass wheel and tire combo. That doesn’t mean you have to live with it. If it were me I would source a set of TRD Pro BBS forged aluminum 18” wheels, and put on an appropriate tire of your choice. The truck will ride better, and the forged 18”s will solve the durability problems. Since it’s an OEM part there’s no risk of poor fitment or other quality issues.

State DOTs are usually very political beasts. Take tax money from all over the state and focus in a few districts of the most powerful politicians. I commuted daily 100 miles out up 75 to Atlanta for 2 plus years from 2014-2016. There was a rectangular hole in the concrete about 4-5 feet long and 8-10 inches wide where they cut the concrete and never replaced it. It is still there today. You used to see all the daily commuters part like the red sea to avoid it everyday.

Might be better to fork out the cash than making an insurance claim also

…save the claim/deductible for a bigger issue should you need it rather than having your rates rise because you made a claim.

Since we now know your from Colorado, the advice in this thread is good (especially about the donuts). :) The roads here take a beating with all the weather and temperature swings.

If it were my capstone, I would repair/replace both wheels and not buy new tires. The tire and wheels would go into my shed for long term storage.
Probably some PRO or Land Cruiser wheels. You can always purchase some take offs locally:
