Performance problems after cold air intake install

Hi guys

Im experiencing performance issues after installing a cold air intake on my 2019 Tundra. Its been about 2 months, and now its starting to show warning lights (too rich bank 1&2) P0172 and P0175. also has a lil rough idle...... and when I floor it, it starts shaking and trembling and wont accelerate or change gear. but when I dont floor it, it runs good and changes gears like normal. I was told that with cold air intakes, I have to have the computer programmed to accept new changes...anyone else has experience with this or can confirm this? should I just go back to stock air box and forget it?....Ive seen where people have them and I assume they work just fine...im just wondering why mine is acting up. Also may be MAP sensor, Im trying to find and clean that...already cleaned MAF sensor....Please advise

 

Which intake did you get?

In reality, intakes don't really do much except look cool in the engine bay.

I'd go back to stock. If you want to keep it, go through and make sure all your connectors and fittings are tight.

 

Ok it was a bad MAF sensor. I replaced and cleared codes...no more issues...case closed...thanks!!

 

Did you install one with an oiled filter? If so, that is what damaged the MAF sensor.

 

Yes I did...but can I run it dry? and what about other car make and models...dont they have MAF sensors that can also sustain damage of the same?

 

No. Oiled filters have to be oiled to filter properly. Get a dry filter. Plain and simple. Oiled filters are junk and are notorious for damaging MAF sensors, especially on vehicles like ours where the MAF is so close to the filter. No MAF sensor is designed to function with contaminants on it. Oiled filters kill them, as you’ve found out. No auto maker puts oiled filters on their vehicles.

Thanks for this info. I have a 2015 1794 and thinking about installing a cool air intake system. Now that you got to the bottom of your issue, would u recommend getting one or just keeping the stock?

 

Never understood why people have issues with oiled filters. Been running them on various makes and models for over 20yrs with zero issues.

 

Exactly. People over oil or don’t let it soak etc
