For those wanting better fuel mileage and a truck, perhaps you need to wait for the Toyota Stout to make it's come back. Toyota seem to be working on it.

    @jrsharp70

Alignment can be a factor also as my past 2012 SR5 DC killed a front set less than 10k miles. Had a "Alignment only" shop correct it as the toe was really bad no thanks to the Toyota dealer. This corrected the tire wear and added 3 mpg.
Have a couple of tire gauges to compare against one another too.

How much are you idling it, because that will tank it like you wouldn't believe.

If mine will do it, yours should as well. I dont think I am babying this thing any more than my 2012, I just watch the road and let it run on electric every second it can.

The EPA estimates are from testing that averages 48mph. If you drive above 65, your MPG will tank. EPA estimates should NEVER be used for real world expectations since they don't mirror real world usage.

I average 17.8mpg on my TRD Pro with 50/50 city/highway driving.

    @jrsharp70

this is how they calculate EPA mileage (see pic).

    https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/how_tested.shtml

    In a Laboratory.

    from the EPA site.

    Fuel Economy in Hot Weather
Hot weather can increase your fuel economy.
    Fuel Economy in Cold Weather
Cold weather and winter driving conditions can reduce your fuel economy.

No one has asked you where you drive. It's been a cold spring in a lot of places. March reversed with February.

With that, IMO, these numbers may be consistent between manufacturers as they are all supposedly subjected to the same tests.
So maybe there is some value when cross shopping.
But the testing itself is hardly a real life scenario unless you are driving with no wind on a flat in 70 degree weather.

fwiw My Dinosaur 2018 truck gets 18 mpg when I drive fully loaded at 50 mph in spring summer fall.
I don't want to even think about what it gets in the winter. The number is lower.

I have just the regular engine, but would like to toss out there that’s it’s the norm to get 20+ mpg’s on the highways, anywhere from 55-70 mph.
Seriously, put it in CC and Eco, (this is the only scenario where Eco is viable) it just goes right along.

Now, do some slow around town and some idling and it will be quite bad, but fully expected.

I sold my 22 pro at 12.1 mpg mixed and my 23 platinum at 13.3 mpg mixed. I never get advertised and my driving isn’t hellacious, but my terrain is.

right now I get 15.6 mpg in my 23 pilot. Far below the epa as expected

I’m averaging 18+ mpg. This is mostly at 75 to 83 mph over 50 to 150 mile stretches. In city is lower, but I haven’t directly measured. I’m using 87 octane fuel in SE Texas.

Lol, but EPA tests all the vehicles right?

So I guarantee if you make a poll, majority of ppl will all say they can't hit EPA avg rating on this tundra.

This is only vehicle I've driven since 1989 that does not meet or exceed EPA ratings easily. Everything else has no issues city/freeway. This city rating for gen 3 should be 14/15 imo.

EPA should be used as estimates since it's the ONLY baseline we get from all the diff mfg. Lol never use EPA figures might as well just believe the mfg for whatever rating they put in the window stickers

I noticed over 75mph the MPG starts dropping on my truck. I've tested this multiple times on a 450 miles trip to Ontario, Canada from Pennsylvania. One of my trip I tried cruising at 80+, the mpg started dropping into 19's.

When my truck was stock I was getting 20-21 mpg highway. That was cruising 70-75 on highway through upstate new york, so not entirely flat ground either. City I was getting 16-17 mpg driving 7 miles to work everyday.

Now I'm leveled on 35's D load range tires and getting about 12 city and 16 highway.

The 35's are not helping your MPG. Bet it looks great though :) I am bone stock hybrid and did 28 MPG today on a 2.5 hour drive with highway at 60 and country road 40-50

2K, had been averaging 19.5 mixed driving, mostly easy, 91 oct gas( all all we have in CO), tires at 36 psi. Seems to be getting better as the drivetrain breaks in. Filled up with Shell premium and now 21.5 mpg.

Yes, but not every car is shaped like a brick lol. My Bronco got way below the EPA estimate as well, and my wife's Lexus UX gets above the estimate. the real world MPG is different for all vehicles.

your real-world fuel economy is affected by a ton of variables. The entire point of my comment was that the EPA estimates don't reflect real world driving or usage and shouldn't be used as gospel. Even if you look at statistical averages on Fuelly (https://www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/tundra/2022), there are people getting averages below the estimate as well as above. It all depends on your driving style, weather conditions, fuel type, etc.

It can also very wildly from tank to tank, my Tundra is at 17.5 avg but I've had tanks where it was at 19 (driving to Austin at 75 on cruise), and at 15 (hauling furniture in the bed).

This is definitely a frustrating problem. But to be completely fair, according to Fuelly, an F250 with the V8 gasser only gets you 11.8mpg on average. Grass does seem greener when your lawn is disappointing, tho, I get it. Good luck getting this resolved.

My factor is 1.07 to calculate tire size. 14.5mpg is actually 15.515 (Hybrid). Not that it helps.

cars/trucks don't simply 'get x mpg' it is heavily dependent on driving style, tires, pressure, and many other variables. If you're bone stock, sorry to say you're not driving as conservatively as you may think you are. You'll have this issue with any vehicle.

Im going to guess its a combination of low miles on the truck, winter driving, and maybe driving type. I bet as you get up higher in miles and we get closer to summer your miles will come up considerably.

Not exactly the same, but when I first bought my 2014 F150 Ecoboost I drove it from MA to UT at 1200 miles on the ODO. It got a horrifying 13 mpg all highway. It didnt fully loosen up until about 10k miles if I remember right, but now, even with 315/70R17's it will keep around 16 in the winter and 17-18 in the summer. Before my 315/70's it would do 20-22 mpg highway at 65mph.

    Give it a little time.

here is the stats for our 23 platinum bone stock (bed cover since day 1 was the only accessory added that wasnt part of the original factory build)

14.3 (13.5 on dash) was 70-75 mph into head heads (minot to bismarck is 70, bismarck to fargo is 75) with only 1 stop for gas.

16.0 (15.8 on dash) was the same trip back.

this was from minot to bismarck to fargo with the wife driving solo in comfort mode to see the grandson.

the 12 and 8 mpg and some the of 14.3 (1/8 tank) was during extreme cold temps and lots of remote starts.

We have a ‘21 Sienna PlatAWD with near 40,000 miles on it and I’ll tell anyone who will listen that it’s a road warrior and a damn fine vehicle. People get hung up on the minivan stigma, but it’s more spacious and practical than the Highlander which is basically the same vehicle under the sheet metal. Coast to coast loaded down with rooftop cargo box and kids in the back, going full soccer dad mode, still pushes out 30+ mpg. Dinking around town you can squeak close to 40 out of it. Very very impressed over 2 years in.

Watch out for that center console though, it will eat your wallet, phone, keys, money, whatever you put on top of it (and then open the console). They have small mats now with a ridge that can help. I just cut a hole inside of the console so the stuff falls down inside.

Tundra and Sienna make a nice combo.

Your mpg is a product of the vehicles efficiency, and your driving style. Most are not driving in a manor to optimize fuel efficiency, even when they come on here claiming to be. Bring me your truck, I can drive it and get the rated MPG no probs. Most of your gas gets wasted during acceleration and braking. If you're doing a lot of either, your mileage will be poor. Trips with infrequent need to start and stop will yield the most efficiency.

So again… on your first tank you drove way past the empty light and put in 30! Gallons? To calculate 14.5 mpg?

What you need to do is find a flat highway and set your cruise control to 55mph then reset your dash. Drive for say 5+ miles and tell us what you got. If your getting below 20 for those 5 miles at speed somethings wrong. If you get above 20 then you have no idea how engines get power and need to leave your dealer alone lol

I get 19-20.6 mpg hand calc.
I go 70mph and set the cruise.

a F250 diesel with the 10 speed transmission will get you 19mpg doing 70-75. Just drive 1800 miles with one. F250 Lariat Tremor on 35s lol

87 is 3.2X here and diesel is 3.8X today

so 60 cents a gallon difference.

Update. Mixed city and Highway, hand calculated MPG, driving very conservatively in Georgia during spring on stock tires with no towing, using Exxon 87 octane.

    15.06 MPG combined.

    so roughly 75% EPA estimated.

Again, great truck other than the super squeaky seat. Just very little point in owning a half-ton again when the 3/4 ton gets same MPG.

Most mentions of mpg I see on here seem to have the hybrid getting anywhere from 2-4 mpg less than standard I force. There are some outliers of course.

I know the hybrid is for power, not mpg. But it shouldn't get worse mpg.

It's got to be a combo of added weight and parasitic drag from the hybrid motor and charging.

To make things worse, I average between 15.5-16 in my 16 lifted on 34's.
